Born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, Kayla is an establishing singer, actress, dancer, choreographer, and two-time Irma P Hall Award Nominee. She has spent most of her life being mentored and guided by many great talents and professionals in the metroplex. One of those mentors being Doug Parker who was an honorary award winner of Tarrant Actors Regional Theatre for Outstanding Service in 2019. As an alum from Kennedale High School, her love of theatre grew sophomore year under the direction of Mr. Parker. After graduation (2014), Kayla continued to study Theatre briefly at Oklahoma Baptist University where she excelled, but God had other plans. With added mentorship and direction from former KISD educator Linda Graddy, Kayla would soon return home and continue exploring her craft with Kennedale Community Theatre in the Park from 2018-2022. This would lead her to explore theatre on a broader scale. In February 2022, Kayla would audition for Jubilee Theatre and cultivate a body of work for two and a half years. In her third season with Jubilee she has choreographed two shows: “Praise the Lord and Raise the Roof” by Celeste B. Walker and, “A Gospel: Black Nativity” by Langston Hughes. She has starred in roles such as (Massassi) in “If Pretty Hurts Ugly Must Be A MF”, (Stepsister/Dancer/Ensemble) in “Dreamgirls” at Bass Hall, (Rosa) in “Take The Soul Train To Christmas”, (Sweet Mama) in the stage reading of “Bread ‘n’ Gravy: The Songs & Life of Ethel Waters”, (Olivia) in “The Color Purple” at Scott Theater, (Ensemble) in “A Gospel: Black Nativity”, (Sweet Mama) in the premiere stage play of “Bread ‘n’ Gravy”, and currently (Emily/Ensemble) in “Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin”. With great exposure comes the responsibility of being a student first and stepping out on faith. This stepping stone has been unexpected, fast, and a huge blessing on her life. She looks forward to growing, branching out, and making theater a full time profession. All thanks and honor go to God; the one who strengthens and allows her another chance to prosper.
