We did Black Balsam Knob and Tennent Mt a couple years back. Some of the best views I've seen. Took Ivestor back to make it a loop as you mentioned. Got tired of walking in that v-trench with head high brush. Glad to see some trial maintenance.

I have to do this hike again soon. This area has an almost "western" feel in how open and vast the scenery is.
