#blackbearpass #offroading #colorado
Hey guys, been seeing Black Bear Pass on YT and other social media for awhile now. We finally were able to take our #tacoma out and see why it's consider one of the hardest #offroading trail in #Colorado. We started around 1pm and finished around 6pm in Telluride. It was a bit longer than we thought but we wanted to take our time to enjoy the trail but also carefully choose our line on this trail. Our friend #xterra was trying to avoid some bikers coming up the trail and blew out his sidewall while hugging the rocky wall of the trail. Overall this trail was definitely the hardest off roading trail I've done because it was very steep, technical and just overall gnarly going down. Hope you enjoy this trail review video of #blackbearpass. If you like this video consider subscribing to the channel and follow along on our #overlanding #adventure in Colorado.

Hey, I gotta hand to you, a superb video on the pass. It really showed the difficult sections. We're doing this 31 July 2023 & I'm insisting that my spouse & grandson (he's from Chicago) watch & learn what to do as you did. I have a FJ so I know it is capable. I just need those spotters out there. Always had B Bear Pass in our sights here in Colo. Good work on producing this. 😁

I can honestly say I didn't love Black Bear and its an 8/10 for me. Every time I had my breath taken away by the views and elevation I was quickly taken out of it by the danger of all the shear drops. I would only do it again if I were allowed to go up it. More challenging that way lol. Good trip, looking forward to the next one! Thanks for putting all these videos together Mike!

Nice video, glad you guys had an enjoyable trip. The drone footage is fantastic and I appreciate you showing more of the areas where the high clearance comes in handy. Pretty much cemented that my vehicle, despite being a 4x4, will not have sufficient clearance unless I am good with scratching up the bottom. Ha! Were you guys in low gear coming down? If not, that will help a ton with keeping low speed on some of those traverses and will save your brakes (I use my transmission coming down mountain passes all over - in CA too). And for some of the commenters on here, as someone from Colorado - I cannot imagine nor recommend a 2WD anything on this pass. If you need to see what happens if brakes fail on this pass or you make a mistake, there are videos out there where people have come off the mountain and not the way you want to.
@Michael_Tran
@Michael_Tran Жыл бұрын
Thank you...even with about 11.5 inches of clearance I do feel like its not enough for some of those ruts. I did use 4lo on a few sections going down...but honestly I didn't use it the whole way. In hindsight I would've been helpful and save my brake a bit.

I have done BB twice. The second time, my friends and I ended up being the trail guides as everyone else who met up at the top were first timers. Definitely nerve wracking being the "seasoned veteran". Everyone made it down Rubber side oriented correctly! Key to the steps is taking a higher line and turning left to come down perpendicular, especially for IFS vehicles. Solid axles and larger tires handle the flex without as much of that tipping feeling!

Good video. I've driven many a jeep trail in both my pickups and my Jeep YJ in Wyoming over the past 50 years. I fail to see why Black Bear has the reputation it does. Too many rookies and wannabes? That being said, I'm never going to take one of my rigs down there to Colorado to experience that pass. It's cheaper to do a rental, and they forbid Black Bear and Poughkeepsie. Absolutely a treasure like; The Rubicon, Imogene, Moab, Mojave, and so many others. My families favorite, by just a little bit, is the 143 miles of off road in Death Valley during Christmas. Too hot in the summer but the valley is surrounded by peaks, such as Telegraph Peak 11,700 feet high. Keep your hands inside the vehicle boys/girls. For those spotting/filming, don't stand so close to the front of the vehicles specially on the same incline/angle the vehicles can rollover, think if the vehicle rolls where would it land, think if the brakes fail or the driver makes a mistake where would that vehicle go ? Basic common sense will maximize your safety. Be safe out there and keep having fun. Nice video and nice rigs.

I hope it’s not. I took a rookie off roader in a new manual Bronco and she did just fine on it. It was raining and hailing when we started too. It is not a super difficult trail but a dangerous one.

Can’t get enough of BB? - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g9WimtZ7ytXReo0.html You might enjoy a non-professional YT’ers ride-along from last year with my never-before-offroading relatives. 18 YO niece in front pax seat loved it and her parents in the back were troopers. Shot live with no fancy drones, no spiffy cut away camera shots, no fast forwards, and no music to get in the way of the crunching rock & tire sounds or lively conversation. Just a “You Are There” ride-along experience. Complements to Michael for his outstanding video work!

As i am watching your group go down it looks like everyone is rolling a little fast not sure if everyone had or used low range on your transfer case my vehicle can go very slow in low range im talking about the steps the most dangerous part and i having gone to black bear pass yet i own many offroad vehicles a yota fj cruiser a h3t hummer truck a 05 lj jeep wrangler unlimited Rubicon a jeep commander all these are built for overlanding off road my jeep wrangler unlimited Rubicon is really built-up for flexing super low craw next your group should check out red cone Colorado high altitude steep up and down , any way you showed how many non built up vechiles can do black bear pass by being careful nice job

I think most of us were in 4lo...I was on 4hi for awhile until I was reminder to go 4lo...but I think the hardest part about this is pass is being too caught up looking at the view and not concentrating on the trail. It's hard not to get mesmerize with Telluride and forget that you can get kill if not careful here.

Black bear pass is an easy trail for any experienced driver, if you can handle your fear of shelf roads its technical rating is maybe a four, stay off the trail if there is any chance of rain, the flash floods can be dangerous

Important to have 4x4 on BBR, not for climbing traction......but for putting the truck in LOW RANGE and using it to creep. The lack of throttle control on the blue Taco is astounding.....it was only one spin out from going over the edge on the 2 point turns.

Just like with mountain bike trails. The whole trail could be easy, but if there's high exposure and possible death from you fall off the trail, then the trail is not rated easy nor considered easy. Easy trails encourage people with little to no experience. In good conscience, are you really bringing your beginner good friend or family member up there? So yes, life changing and easy are contradictory in this case.
