Black-bellied Whistling Ducks whistle when alarmed ... but they look like an animated Disney musical number. PLEASE CLICK 'LIKE' IF YOU APPRECIATE THE MOVIE.

Hi! Zoologist and duck lover here. Twitchy wings isn't actually a nervous thing, they do it cuz they're hot. They quiver their wings to release warm trapped air and get fresh cool air up against the skin by the wing membrane.

I live in St. Louis and work by the airport. A family of these were walking across our parking lot and heading for a lake at least a half mile away with busy traffic. Me and my coworkers slowly directed them back to the creek and shrub cause we were afraid they would get hit by cars. The next few days I didnt see any dead ducks on the road so I believe they made it!

Female ducks look cute, they don't look like dirty dish water.

I saw 2 of these in Austin, TX area right after Hurricane Harvey, they were amazing, ducks with bright orange-red bills and making sounds like the other birds, not quacks. It was astounding!

They're very loud, but irresistible. They also perch and even nest in trees, which is unusual for ducks.

Jo, the ducks came within about five feet of me today, the first time after about ten days of feeding them. I am going to wear the same clothes every day from now on. Hopefully, they will recognize me and come closer when they see me. I thought it would take much longer than this to see some signs of trust. 😊😊😊

Your commentary was so cute. I like how you described how they "finish off their look" with white eyeliner and coral beaks. So cute!

Hi Jo! Thanks for sharing! We are duck parents to a Black-bellied Whistling duck since July. Is a rescue duck, no family so we took it on. It's 4 months old and hangs out with us all day and with our dogs. Comes when called and loves to land on our heads. It's imprinted on us and clearly we have as well, lol. Still trying to figure out if it's a boy or a girl though, keep calling it a she but who knows. HA! Love learning about these guys!

I just had a couple visiting my pond last week. I’ve never seen this species of duck before so it was really cool.

We have a couple flocks of whistlers that visit us in Southeastern Florida. My wife and I agree with a couple adjectives we've seen used for them, including vociferous and boisterous. But they are also pugnacious, with each group sort of like a gang who have sworn an oath to protect one another. Very entertaining birds! I promise you, watching these birds will make you laugh.

Love the fashion details Jo, kinda like narrating a runway show and also, of course, hearing the whistles. They are a beautiful bunch with a lot of personality and you've highlighted their most interesting facts with lovely scenes including the aerial at the end!

Feathered pretzel!!! I love it. My boys got a letter from Sunny the Mail Snail about black bellied whistling ducks, so I wanted to find a video to hear their whistle. This was great, thank you! )

I love this! Your narration is sweet and charming and very interesting! We have a duck box for the first time and as of today, 18 eggs. We are excited! It has been such an interesting and fun journey watching the parents care for each other and swoop in to lay their egg...Mother in th box and Dad nearby making sure all is okay (though each time he enters a bit after she does, as though to encourage her for the process. When she is finished...she sticks her head out and signals him and they join one another (in low flight at first) to whatever pond-adventure they go to for the night. BTW, they never fly home before carefully perusing the area below from a roof or treetop before entering their Tiny House! Delightful creatures. Thank you for posting this!
