Black Engine

4 жыл бұрын“Black Engine” is the name of a transpiration-cooled ceramic thrust chamber technology developed at DLR Institut of Structures and Design. Taking advantage of the favorable material properties of ceramic matrix composites (CMC), the combustion chamber is cooled by transpiration of the fuel through the combustion chamber wall. This highly efficient cooling method with its low pressure requirement in contrast to conventional regenerative cooling, combined with the high temperature resistance of the material, potentially results in a very efficient overall system.

I was think in try motor with porcelain to mimic the ceramic temps.

why dont make the chamber with CMC? and the nuts betwen CMC and chamber dont get melt? CMC can get 3000ºC but chamber only 1000ºC aprox.

The combustion chamber is made of CMC -> Octra. 3000°C is a rather academic value. We specify approx. 1000°C because the maximum temperature depends on the environment. It should withstand 1000°C even under unfavourable conditions, e.g. when oxidiser comes into contact with the wall. The metal studs and nuts here are made of high-temperature metal.

I had the same thought but the actual engine is very small (size of an iMac) and is made for satellites so this is likely a pressure fed engine. If that's the case then this is the entire engine.

So what is Engine for you? Has injectors, has igniter and chamber with nozzel. Ok maybe need some pump some valve. But its not bad start.
