They wrote this shortly after their younger brother, Andy Gibb, died. They had helped launch his solo career in the late 70’s. He was an instant star with his first three singles going to #1, setting a record that may never be broken. Tons of videos of him available. All the fame and money... and drugs and alcohol... always showing up in magazines with female celebrities, even though he had married before becoming a star. He got off the drugs, but had damaged his heart and not told them. Barry helped get him a contract for a new album, and he was staying at Robin’s guest home in England to write songs for it...... was hospitalized and died. It’s an easy story to find, if you want more details. The brothers, especially Barry, felt partially responsible, but we don’t get to go back and do it over. Andy died 3 days after his 30th birthday, and their father 3 years later, they said of a broken heart. I’m always impressed with how they, including their mother, share so openly in interviews. Super sad story. For Whom the Bell Tolls was written shortly after Andy died and they channeled their emotions into it. Robin’s son, Spencer, said that the original demo was very emotional. Barry is still living. It’s his mission to keep his brothers “alive” by keeping the music alive. There’s a new documentary coming out in December named after one of their biggest hits, HOW CAN YOU MEND A BROKEN HEART, and Barry has a new album coming out in January. We will definitely have to check that out on this channel when it comes out much love and respect to the greats though its sad how it happened but marvelous how their music lives on till this day and forevermore! :D R.I.P to the Greats!

Sadly Andy neither wrote a word nor sang a note but was falling down drunk every day, It was probably not the best idea to have him stay with Robin anyway because he was fairly newly clean himself . Robin was living in a rather small, slleepy village in England where it must have been a great deal harder to get drugs on every street corner than Miami so maybe that was part of the plan. The whole family had some strange dynamics for sire. I'm impressed with your generous heart. I'm not a veteran myself but I do struggle with suicidal ideation pretty regularly . It's very hard to talk about this because it makes everyone uncomfortable. Best of luck with your efforts; you will save lives.

I think you are talking about the song Wish You Were Here which they dedicated to Andy! FWTBT came along later!

Laurie, this Laurie agrees with you. And Andy died of a heart infection caused by his long-term drug abuse. He was clean at the time of his death. None of his brothers, especially Robin, should ever have felt responsible for what happened to Andy. They loved him but ultimately couldn't help him.

Robin had the most beautiful and unique voice. My neice committed suicide 2 years ago. I had been her foster mom. She'd just barely turned 22. This song hits me hard. The Bell Tolls for my Abbie girl.

As a teenager (giving away my age) the Bee Gees were and still are my favorite group. You are an amazing person. Never change. God Bless

This song was written shortly after their younger brother, Andy, died right after his 30th birthday. They only performed this song a few times live, but always dedicated a song to Andy in concerts. They felt partially responsible for having helped launch Andy’s career when he was only 18 or 19. His first 3 singles went to #1, setting a record that may never be broken. Maybe you could react to Bee Gees Don’t Throw It All Away One Night Only. Also, The Bee Gees and Andy Gibb You Should Be Dancing Live 1979.

This is a beautiful later song of theirs. Another song Run to me is not often reacted to but amazing too. I'd look at the official and remastered version. Great reactions!

It was a shame that Andy died so young & didn't sing much with his brothers. Just want to say my deepest sympathys goes to you, family & friends going through losses. You seem a lovley person. I was in my 20's in the 80's & loved The Bee Gees. There are many songs you can catch up with them. xxxx

Thank you for your reaction. I have never seen your channel before and so I’ma little late with a comment but I still wanted to put one down. I love your attitude about things. You’re a cool guy. For whom the bell tolls is one of my 3 most favorite songs by The Bee Gees although I love so many of their songs. They were amazing. They did their own music but none of them could write music. Pretty cool. I love all three of the guys but my favorite has always been Robin. He just had something about him. And his voice was beautiful. He was funny. Maurice was also funny. A joker. I’m glad they got back together. They were better together and they knew it. I would love to get your reaction to 2 other of their songs if you’ve not heard them before, To Love Somebody and I Can’t See Nobody. (this one just gets to me). If you do that would be so cool. Thank you. And there’s one called Alone that I love. And I really love Nights On Broadway and Jive Talkin. Just FYI, they came up with the tune for jive talkin when they were riding across a bridge in Florida and they heard the sound the tires made going over the pavement. The clicking sound. I guess if you’ve not listened to all their music you should. It’s SO GOOD. I feel for Barry. It must be hard. They’d been singing together since he was 9 or so I believe. And the twins were around 6. I may be off by a year or two but I know they were very young. And to your question, I feel like you do. When I love someone, I really love them deeply. Now I’m going to go subscribe.
