Black history and culture are a vital part of Greater Philadelphia’s past, present and future. In the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection, celebrations of Black culture take place all year long.
One easy way to honor Black history is by fueling the future, which is easy to do at the many Black-owned independent businesses that dot Philadelphia’s neighborhoods. You can pick up hair products at Marsh + Mane, a cool T-shirt at Grant Blvd or chic baby gear at Buddha Babe. In addition to shopping, be sure to enjoy some of the many Black History Month happenings taking place at venues all over the region.
Celebrate the life and legacy of the famed Underground Railroad conductor at the Harriet Tubman - The Journey to Freedom sculpture on temporary view at City Hall; explore exhibitions that elevate stories of the Black experience; catch loads of musical and theatrical performances; chat with authors; and so much more.
