I was part of the NCO’s who tested this within PEO soldier at the asymmetric warfare group compound. This drone actually performed poorly against all the other drones I tested and created parameters for. The only reason the US Army ended up buying this was because it was the better of the two drones that were submitted for trials with the government procurement. It actually wasn’t even suppose to continue in the trails because we didn’t have the minimum of 4 required to complete it.

FLIR is the reason the US will never ever fight against a near-tier enemy such as Russia or China on a land-based battlefield. They are unwilling to withstand the personnel losses that occur when their enemy can see them in the pitch-black darkness of night behind thick foliage from 2km away (or more). The US and its allies will only ever engage in a land-based conflict with poverty-stricken nations who have little to zero access to FLIR technlogy and who also have zero ability to achieve air superiority. Even Desert Storm in the early 90s was a big gamble, and Iraq barely had any access to the search-and-destroy technologies the US and its allies had at the time. The last time the US went up against a near-tier enemy was in 1945...

@@BrickedWall Stop lying. You can have drones equipped with explosives that are quiet enough. Quiet enough to stalk soldiers in the middle of the night at a distance of 20 feet. This tiny drone from FLIR is ancient tech. It would only make sense for small groups of special forces for quick recon/overview.

They're also working on a version that can hold a single 357 magnum cartridge, and detonate point blank, if a high priority target is spotted.
@a.c.e7407
@a.c.e7407 2 күн бұрын
I mean, if you want to engage targets with a drone, you shouldn't be using sth like this. You'd want a much bigger drone that can fly around fast with an AR15 mount. At the moment, they're not very worthwhile because if you're engaging targets then they are aware of the drone and that's bad because: a) To shoot you need to stay stationary, which gives the enemy ample time to shoot it down. b) It would then have to move around constantly to avoid being shot down, but would pay for it with much lower accuracy, and for a device that would barely hold 60 rounds, it's not going to be of much help. Also, these would be worth hundreds of dollars which is way too expensive for a risky elimination. It's not that incognito, it's just hard to spot if you're fighting others and your focus is somewhere else. It's still quite easy to see close range.
@Condor1970
@Condor1970 2 күн бұрын
@a.c.e7407 ...The problem with any drone that carriers a large weapon is that it's also very large and very loud. This little guy is designed so it can literally fly inside buildings, and it is quiet enough that you can not hear it until it's right on top of you. It's a surveillance drone, which will be given the ability to attack and eliminate a single high priority target if discovered. The cost is well worth it when you can take out a division commander visiting his troops or in a meeting near the battlefield.

It's too expensive for a swarm like that. I get that it will be overkill on the field and just kamikaze its way to enemy operators, but that's a few dozen Ks. If you take out everything besides a camera for locking to targets, it's still quite expensive and with its size it's not going to be able to carry any lethal payload either. If you're going to use swarms of drones to engage targets, then just make bigger drones with mounted guns, and have them just fly over enemies to shoot them down, and since there're many of them they won't get a chance to stand and shoot them down.

It's running a 2,500mAh pouch cell to power an $2,000USD FLIR camera (Model: COIN612/R - available from a company called 'Global Sensor Technology'). The asking price on this thing is approximately 8,000-10,000% (80-100x) mark-up... They charge what they do because the DoD can write blank cheques. I guarantee you that a Chinese manufacturer could achieve 80% of it's capabilities at 1/50th the cost. There's nothing in this thing that can't be achieved with a soldering iron and around $2,000 USD budget for a FLIR camera and encrypted 5gHz transmission tech. I've seen the prior two models up close in person, and as an RC person with a lot of experience with such kit, it ain't impressing me. Even the horizon-levelling tech in the video feed was done by Parrot back in 2014 with the Bebop drone via clever XYZ gyroscope/accelerometer feedback programming and a fisheye lens. The DJI Avata uses exactly the same tech to provide a horizon-levelled video feed without the need of a 3-axis gimbal.

all these drones are fancy and cool but i could render them all useless on a battlefield with ZERO electronic warfare and without a gun... ~2km range pretty decent, must hog the battery though with all the bells and whistles and since it only says "over 30 min of flight time" and not "over an hour" i'm going to guess it's fairly close to an hour judging on the size of that battery pack and with 3 batteries that's still pretty decent operating time of what i'm going to guess is a total of ~2 hours 20 minutes.

The US is so embarrassingly behind in drone warfare, it could prove to be our fatal flaw. We’ve failed to invest in production. We spend 200k on a drone that can be purchased for 15 dollars on TEMU. Drones are more than capable of doing CASEVAC flights. Yet we still send in choppers and risk 40 million dollar helicopter and 40 million dollars worth of training to crew the chopper when a 10k agricultural drone could be flown remotely and do the job without popping up on radars. Who cares how much we spend on defense if we are paying 200k for a fifteen dollar drone and 200 dollars on a five dollar hammer. The corruption and foolishness of our defense establishment is quickly leading to our ruin. We could mount a mini gun to a DJI Agras drone, pop in an Apple facial recognition chip designed to identify enemies, and clear every trench in eastern Ukraine without risking a single life. Yet we spend stupid amounts of money on stupid weapons that cost five times the original amount to replace. Our leaders are crooks and traitors.

That 2 kilometer range is too limiting,a dji mini 4 pro can reach up to 20km... It puts the drone operator too close to the enemy...

A brief disclaimer for the viewers' discretion followed by a mentioning of the Government / State Administration prescribed regulatory formats defining the norms for weapon and weapon-tech possession and usage by private civilian defense operators, amateur weapon-smiths & recreational technologists and weaponists; and a certain approval insignia/logo in the credits, attesting this motion-feature as a cited statutory approval of the Government Agency/Agencies regulating sports / recreational usage of weapon platforms & advanced combat assistance systems applicable to military usage; would greatly increase the civic relevance and applied-technology promotion aspect of this info-motion-feature across the geographies and genres. A humble view. Salute'!

You guys should stop making drones and consider making movies! That was sweet to watch! edit: also perhaps put some rotor protectors around the rotors, one small twig or getting too close to a wall and it's going down. That was an upgrade I did on my commercial little fun drone and it's been a great upgrade :D

I was thinking similar thoughts about the rotors, but it may be an intentional compromise in choosing to maximize audio signature reduction. I think adding a non-moving shell/ring around a rotor generates more noise - *I think* it does, to be clear I am not sure.

So these are worth over 100k? What insane world are we living in? At best these should be 2-3k. Imagine being a PFC and crashing one of these drones during training and having to explain to SGM why they took a 100k expense during a training exercise.
