While most birds mate quickly without much fanfare, the black kites are just the opposite. Not only do they mate longer and more frequently (some 10 to 12 times a day), they also announce it loudly. It is the male that makes all the racket. We have an abundance of coconut palms in our neighborhood which make for perfect nesting sites for them. There are several pairs around at any given time and they seem to breed year around.
These video clips are from 2018. I had zoomed into this beautiful brownish kite because it looked pretty against the green hills in the background with white domesticated pigeons flying about. The mating happened quite unexpectedly. But once it happened, I kept the camera trained on the bird to capture more action, given their libido. Incidentally, because the birds were some distance away, I couldn't capture the vocalization clearly. So I have mixed in the audio from two other recordings of their mating that took place on the rooftop of the building right next to ours.
