Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) removed a community garden Wednesday that became a symbol of hope during the 2020 protests following the murder of George Floyd.

You blockaded the neighborhood, disallowed emergency services into the area, declared it separate from the United States (yes, we remember that it was dubbed the "Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone" first), allowed general lawlessness to take hold, and you expect the City to bend to your demands after your "Summer Of Love" was shut down?

I live one block from the park, and it was a relief to see the area that has been trashed, filled with graffiti, unhinged people, vandalism and unhealthy conditions, once again being turned back into a place that is healthy and welcoming for the entire community. Thank you park workers and Seattle PD.

I also live one block from the park (howdy neighbor). I co-sign everything you have said and a few more points: Marcus Henderson, who is behind this garden, had no history in the park or even Capitol Hill prior to CHOP. He had only lived in Seattle two years and quite a distance away from Capitol Hill. Ironically, despite lecturing everybody about colonialism and the evils of occupation he declared his right to take part of Cal Anderson Park for himself due to the history of redlining. Much of the parks activities were ideological- heavy on the black nationalism. On October 7th the garden posted on their IG page a half a dozen times celebrating the massacre in Israel. That is when my feelings about the garden went from strong dislike to hate.

No, I live in a society, you live in the 3rd installment of the Snake Plissken series. They did go into the forest. Remember the unprecedented "wildfires" that choked the NW for weeks? Do you really think unhinged Leftists didn't set those fires so they could blame climate change?

I actually grow crops and I don't see one crop in that little garden. There's a few flowers but that's about it. Clearly it wasn't feeding anyone but the birds.

Why couldn't they get water to the garden? The empty field 50' away has full sprinkler coverage, would have been nice if they could work out a deal to pipe a little over. A simple $20 installation and a little know how could have transformed that garden, unfortunately the people running were a bunch of hostile assholes. I see ot as a tribute to a failed and poorly concieved social movement, good riddance.

How is that a garden? Dude I get wasted every year and produce a jungle. That didn't feed anyone.
Its more work to destroy it than to just move on and sign an agreement with another group to run the garden. Vegetation is tricky, we need it as stabilization next to roads and for better environmental factors, but the people struggling with houselessness often find refuge in overgrown vegetation
@brendanmichel53138 ай бұрын
What? The garden at Cal Anderson provides shelter and reinforces the road? Are you from this planet?

@davidromney41508 ай бұрын
I visited the garden yesterday. I'm sorry to see it go. There are rodents all over town, drug use was near but not in the garden, and the City of Seattle previously did a poor job of maintaining the area, which before was typically a huge mud patch where people could not walk safely.
