It's the only one I hadn't watched, and when I saw they had uploaded quickly watched and came to see their reactions. Really really good episodes. I think this was the first classic Black Mirror episode as we know it today. I didn't particularly love the 2nd episode just cause its so difficult to dissect because it's a wholly different world than ours. The best episodes are ones that are in a world basically like our own, except for one major technological change.

"Possibly the worst moment of a man's life right there" I'd have to agree. This one hit me way too close to home and I've refused to watch it again until now. The technology goes just fine alongside us, unfortunately it just shows up what a total bunch of bastards we all are. Treat your other half badly, it will balance out in the end. @@backroomsspecialist6079 sure they do, it just takes humanity a while to catch up to technology. a generation with grains from birth would grow up knowing you shouldn't lie because you'd be found out anyway, crime could get eradicated, etc the real problem is that humanity is often too immature to correctly handle new technological advancements (cotton gin and slavery, atomic energy and bombs, black powder and firearms, Internet and child pornography, etc). the humanity eventually funds a way to properly apply the tech, but initial reaction is often led by the lower instincts

This is a great episode. It is so fun to think about the possibilities if this technology became real. However, the bigger (and scarier) point that I got from watching this episode, is how the technology has shaped the human experience beyond what is currently recognizable or even imaginable .. and how that applies even to us right now compared to people in the past (!) The people in this episode were BORN with the recording device attached. They have never known what it is like to live without this technology. They are still human beings with thoughts, dreams, wants, normal memories (of course), but this technology has completely changed how they live their lives, how they think ... everything ... so much that we can't even comprehend all of the impacts. And while the technology may have its advantages, of course there are lots of scary sides. Now consider that children born TODAY will never know what it is like to live without Smart Phones, the Internet, and Social Media. While people who are old enough can remember how life was so much simpler back then, the next generation will never experience that. The way they think, how they live their lives will be very different. And again the technology we have today already has lots of scary sides. How we live today with the technologies we have today could be a Black Mirror episode for people 20-30 years ago ... and viewers from back then might be as horrified as we are watching this episode.

24:49 I have to agree with Nikki here! The "time turner" necklace that Hermonie had is far closer to this concept than "The Mirror of Erised". With the time turner, you could go back in time and look at how different events played out... The mirror only showed you your hearts deepest desires. but yes, if you're talking about the obsessive nature only then I get what Steven means :). haha, Steven sort of shut down Nikki pretty fast, so I just wanted to let Nikki know that her connection was valid XD anyways, awesome reaction!

To me this episode kinda takes the whole idea of us always having a camera with us on our cell phones in our pockets to the next level Today so many people are viewing their lives through the lens of their cell phone camera. People go to concerts and spent the whole time watching it on their phones while recording. Instead of experiencing life, they are recording it to watch later.

the scary thing about black mirror is how possible the technology actually seems. if you really think about it, we ALREADY have similar stuff, which is just heightened a bit in this show to make it seem very sci-fi from a far future, and yet, when you see the horrible impact of it, you cannot ignore the fact that something like this is actually already hapening to us. also, this show is designed to make you feel uncomfortable and i think there isn't a single bm episode with a happy ending (some endings are more like ??? and not entirely positive for everyone involved)

"So if there were technology that came out in the near future, my wife would have me first in line for it" as long as she's honest. If she's not, maybe she wouldn't be so keen. There are people who, with a very decent memory, alongside a good amount of skepticism regarding trust & relationships, see this ep as an awakening for the ignorant. I've been through a very similar situation to this episode, with only a good amount of memory to "join the dots", alongside a decent level of intuition, in place of this technology. But the end result is the same. People are basically all self-serving bastards, you should look after Number 1, that will serve you best.

Literally one of my favorite episodes, even after some truly fantastic ones in later seasons this is one idea that gripped me from start to finish. I’m glad you guys liked it. It’s terrible to watch the main character go on this downward spiral. I’m also glad you noticed how obsessive and crazy he got. Some people only focus on the wife’s mistake, which is of course terrible but they mention how he’s gotten obsessed about a man with his wife before and was wrong that time. They both caused their demise. I also always like to think that at the very end when he gouges himself the reason it goes black is because he also lost his sight which can be a consequence of gouging. Sad episode but thats Black Mirror for you! :)

@@krzyszwojciech I suppose one could argue she should have left Liam and gone with Jonas after conceiving the baby. That would at least be a coherent argument.

On a tangent, XKCD had a comic recently about evaluating ‘Tech Things’ on a scale from ‘Whoa Cool’ to ‘This Raises Big Questions about Technology and Society’ otherwise known as the Mythbusters / Black Mirror Scale.

Another great video! Thank you! I think it is great that you incorporate the information about the episode at the end -- it is very innovative! All of technology is a double edged sword... from medicine to farming! The same way we use technology to escape, we can use it to obsess. (Game of Thrones, anyone?). Ultimately, we are still human, with all of the fallibilities that come with being so. And especially when technology becomes an extension of ourselves, tech plays a role in how we are fallible... how dark our obsessions can become. Valar Morghulis

The whole screen went black at the end. Does that mean he went blind. The lady who had hers taken out said that she was lucky she didn't go blind.

This episode and the next 2 are wild. Also you don't need to Google about the show. It's up to you how you see each episode. You might love an episode that people hate, or hate an episode people love. Don't Google for the "right" answer. It's whatever you make of it.

Just wanted to point out (if no one else has) that the episode starts with a reflection of Liam in the BLACK polished table top - so, literally, a "black mirror". Also, his reflection is upside down, so...sort of a twisted, distorted reflection of the real world?

It was the very first episode of Black Mirror I've seen. The sex scene did hit me like a ton of bricks! There was nothing between those two except their child and memories. "Major downward spiral" - perfect description, Steven. And there's no way to save them. At the end of the episode, I was positive that I love this show.

I almost wish they had kept the affair vague, or at the very least he never gets 100% confirmation even if all the evidence points that way because that’s not the point. All of us dwell on things and the grain would just drive us all crazy. The character that is just happier that it’s out is brilliant. She can give no specific reason why she is happier without it. But she is. Love this episode.

Thank you for an entertaining react video (Now stored digitally forever) Yeah this episode was about constantly re-living your past to the point of obsession. And it’s about letting go of the past to make room for the present and future. But in relations to electronic and the world we live in today, it seems to me it’s also (or more) about the documentation of our lives. When I was younger the two most commonly ways we had to document our lives was photographs (on film and paper) and (hand) written diaries. Today we post all sorts of personal information on Facebokk and other social media platform, we text each other, digital cameras make mothers take 5000 pictures of their kids instead of just 10, we film ourselves and each other and publicize those films on pornsites and …. KZfaq. Even our shopping and browser habits helps draw a frighteningly clear picture of who we are. And all of this and more are all stored digitally for later “rewinding” and reviewing :-)

It's one of those situations where you want the truth but sometimes it's better not to know. I mean had he not been so obsessed he could have lived an entire life not knowing. But he needed to know and he lost everything. Not defending the wife because she trash, but couples have survived those predicaments. The moral of the story is ignorance is bliss.
