The Journey to the west is one of the most famous stories from China. Reading this story late at night in university has been a treat for me. I can't wait for the game to finally drop and seeing some famous characters.

Fun fact: there is a series you both are enjoying atm that started being based on Journey to the West and it is Dragon Ball! Son Goku is just another name for Sun Wukong. Even to this day DB still has a lot of influence from Journey to the West. Even tho DB has really become its own thing that influences generations of stories by itself.

Still waiting for this badass game to come out . The devs are very passionate and put a lotta effort into this JTTW Soulslike. The fact that their trailer looked so crispy high quality and the devs STILL weren't satisfied with what they showed that they even delayed the game a couple of times makes them earn my respect as a consumer.

Welcome to Journey to the West, where the most broken and powerful fictional character of all time was written and created, that being Sun Wukong the titular character in Journey to the West. Wukong has the 72 Transformations and is downright indestructible and immortal. It doesn't mean Wukong can transform into 72 things. Nonononono, that is a complete misconception and misunderstanding of his abilities. 72 Transformations mean Wukong has 72 UNIQUE and separate powers/abilities, with shapeshifting being ONLY ONE OF THEM. The rest of the powers make Wukong pretty much an omnipotent character. The others include superstrength, superspeed, invulnerability, flying, phasing through ground, phasing through rocks/walls, traveling underground while phased through the ground (like Shadow Cat from X-men), firebeathing, breathing underwater, moving through water like moving through air, creating impregnable wards/barriers, paralysing others with a single finger point (he once paralysed an entire KINGDOM to escape with his master Tripitaka the monk that he was tasked to protect in the Journey), animating inanimate objects (how he made his cudgel fight autonomously while he chilled), creating copies of himself OR the opponent (Wukong could totally create copies of Superman with the SAME POWERS and have them gang on him while he chilled), vanquishing Deities and Demons (part of his 72 Transformations is the ability to kill Deities and Demons themselves permanently. That's why the Deities and Demons are so scared of him), telepathy, telekinesis, summoning a specific object (like Harry Potter's Acio spell but instead of the item flying to him I think the item teleports itself to his hand), summoning and destroying souls (even ghosts will die a second time), calling for a Deity's aid (It's like he has a direct line to the Deities in Heaven. If he call for them or shout their name they will know it in the Heavens. Then they will descend to aid Wukong as quickly as they can because none of them will want to piss him off), creating healing potions and pills, always knowing his directions and where to go (Wukong is like a cosmic GPS. You can throw him to another planet in another galaxy in another universe and he will know the way back to Earth. That's why in all illustrations for Journey to the West Wukong is always in front, because he knows the way and is guiding the party), reading one's fate and future through Astronomy, changing fate and destiny with magic, substitution technique (like Naruto's Substitution Jutsu. When Wukong takes a blow, he can substitute an object to take his place and escape. He can even use a clone of himself to do this to feign death while escaping), astral projection, entering dreams (not even Freddy from Elm Street is safe in his home tuft. Remember Wukong can kill demons and ghosts PERMANENTLY), invisibility, summoning animals from the vicinity, communicating with and controlling animals, immune to fire and burns, can eat ANYTHING and not get sick (including rocks, glass, poison, heck even Putin's radioactive tea), immune to freezing and cold, can shoot lasers from his eyes (that's right, he can do Optic Blasts), can survive decapitation and reattach the head, can summon rain, can summon wind, can call the clouds to block the sky, can wield all weapons with max proficiency even weapons he touch and use for the very first time (he can totally use a gun or drive a tank or fighter jet because technically they are weapons too). So far that's all that I can remember and name off the bat, I need to reread the Journey to the West to remember the others. Also, Wukong's signature weapon the Golden Cudgel (Ruyi Jingu Bang), weighs a frigging 8 TONNES! Even though the Cudgel is shrunk to an easy to wield size, he is still swinging around something that weighs 8 frigging tonnes with his infinite strength. Being hit by it guarantees certain death for most characters in the story. Let's also not forget that Wukong has MULTIPLE layers of immortality. By mastering the 72 Transformations he has already attained immortality (he will live forever if he is not killed, like an Elf from Lord of the Rings), then he crossed his name off the Ledger of Death (a ledger in Hell that records the life span of ALL living things), he ate all the immortal peaches in the Peach Garden (a single peach already grants immortality and he ate all of them), he drank all the immortal wine for the Peach Banquet, he ate all the Golden Elixir pills of the Pill God (a single pill already grant immortality and he ate all of them) and he ate the Ginseng Fruit during his Journey to the West. You are looking at a character with practically infinite lives. Wukong with his Taoist powers alone is already nigh omnipotent, you also have not included the powers he got when he achieved Buddhahood. Basically Wukong gains the powers of Buddha and becomes completely free of all concepts of existence, no longer being tied down by reality. Someone who achieved Buddhahood, Nirvana and Enlightenment cannot be effected by the rules of existence any longer. He TRANSCENDS the concept of life and death and reality. His title of the Victorious Fighting Buddha is truly an undisputed title that belong to him and describes him to a T.

This game is going to bring some hype for “Soul” players as well “History Buff” people to witness the history of mythology in Asian history. As I hope it be bring some interesting stories within the game. 😄

The mythology behind this is so rich and has never been portrayed so well in a game... okay..maybe in Sekiro :> The world of gods, spirits and ghost's in this mythology is amazing, like Koh the Face Stealer is one of the most ancient and well kinda evil spirits.. he is a giant Centipede with a head of a Mandrill and yeah-- if you speak to him.. and show emotion..he steals your face and just gave you another one, for fun.

the creature designs are fantastic in this. Also you should check out Asuras wrath since this game is giving me a lot of the same vibes where it seems to be a spectacle fighter.

As a huge fan of Sun Wukong, I’m def gonna try and beat this game when it releases. I’ve been looking forward to this game ever since I saw its original trailer before having an official release date. This’ll be my second soulslike game after the Lies of P.
