Thanks for explaining all that! I remembered F1, F2, etc from genetics class, but I don't remember hearing about F1B, F1B1, etc. I suspect I'd see it more if I looked up line breeding (which I'll probably do now, cuz I'm a nerd :P). Also, thanks for tying in the Black Nose Valais! They are ADORABLE! I think they call it "up-breeding" (though that might be an unofficial term) when they import sperm/eggs to breed back like that. I read about it for Gotlands, too.

Can you please make a video on this one or explain in some way..... Can a sheep flock of 40 to 50 stay healthy in a sheep barn that perfectly give them enough space to do their things. So the plan here is i keep a flock of sheep in a large barn.... I feed them in there afternoon and in the morning i take them out to a open area about half a acre and then i feed them there again and let them stay there all day until it's late afternoon then they go back to the barn and get their last meal for the day. I take them out of the barn every day because i want the barn to get fresh air and sometimes i disinfect it. So this flock can go grazing at a open land only once or twice in a month.... Actually this is just to let them stretch their legs a bit. So this is my plan and I'm asking for your advice....Can this work or will it fail..... Plz help out with advice. I want to use a sheep breed that can adapt to harsh conditions and it's called the south african damara sheep and i want to make a hybrid using a dorper sheep with a damara sheep. Will this work... Hope to hear from you

Many farms are able to raise sheep and goats successfully in a confined space such as the one you describe. There are considerations to be made and clean-up can be a challenge. Air circulation and cleanliness are your main challenges. I will attempt to answer your questions more fully in an upcoming video. Thank you.

Very knowledgeable. Do you have information on how to import semen into the US? Is it something a farmer can do by herself?

This is something that is becoming more and more common place. We do not do this because it is cost prohibitive however we have friends who have had good luck with it. I think it’s one of those situations where you have to weigh your options and see if it’s right for you.

Why is it that this breed can’t be imported to the US?

There is some restriction in place due to disease prevention. I have never gotten a straight answer. At this time, people are importing embryos, so it seems a little silly. I would assume the ban will be lifted at some point. I believe they have already lifted restrictions in Canada.
