Thinking of the song's end, it's like somebody who 's losing his faith, dies before he figure out if God is really dead or not.

I listened to Black Sabbath when I was about 14 yrs old, and now I am 63. It sounded amazing back then, and almost “other worldly.” Now, as I listen to the lyrics today, I can tell that there is a lot of deep thought and feelings that are expressed. Just to mention: I do thing that Ozzy (or the writer of the lyrics) states very clearly in this song that he believes that God is not dead. When Ozzy says “God is dead... God is dead... Right.” That is, to me, said in a way that shows sarcasm. It is not what he really believes. That part of the lyrics is said “in jest,” ie, not seriously. Ozzy is searching for purpose and meaning in life, but it just seems too elusive, just too hard to grasp and lay hold of. I use to get depressed by having so many doubts and fears about my life. But now, as a believer and follower of Jesus, I am mentally and emotionally healthy, and at peace with God. Blessings! Mark
@Aphelion67 Жыл бұрын
The end of the song is pretty clear I think; "I don't believe that God is dead" but in a world losing faith and placing it in false idols of consumerism and demagogic politicians we're moving away from His light.
@MrPapamaci882 жыл бұрын
I love it how the lyrics twist and turn and in the end, even through all the darkness and evil, faith is preserved. This is really a good allegory for fighting depression, no matter how shit your life is, no matter how shitty you feel, you keep going and even if you feel stupid about being optimistic or even constructive, when you feel totally dead inside, you still keep at it, building yourself up, and through the darkness you'll bring light into your life. This song embodies perseverance! Inspiring!

Lost in the darkness I fade from the light Faith of my father, my brother, my Maker and Savior Help me make it through the night Blood on my conscious And murder in mind Out of the gloom I rise up from my tomb into impending doom Now my body is my shrine The blood runs free The rain turns red Give me the wine You keep the bread The voices echo in my head Is God alive or is God dead? Is God dead? Rivers of evil Run through dying land Swimming in sorrow, they kill, steal, and borrow, there is no tomorrow For the sinners will be damned Ashes to ashes You cannot exhume a soul Who do you trust when corruption and lust, creed of all the unjust, Leaves you empty and unwhole? When will this nightmare be over? Tell me! When can I empty my head? Will someone tell me the answer? Is God really dead? Is God really dead? To safeguard my philosophy Until my dying breath I transfer from reality Into a mental death I empathize with enemes Until the timing's right With God and Satan at my side From darkness will come light I watch the rain As it turns red Give me more wine I don't need bread These riddles that live in my head I don't believe that God is dead God is dead Nowhere to run Nowhere to hide Wondering if we will meet again On the other side Do you believe a word What the good book said? Or is it just a holy fairytale And God is dead? God is dead, God is dead God is dead, God is dead Right! But still the voices in my head Are telling me that God is dead The blood pours down The rain turns red I don't believe that God is dead God is dead, God is dead God is dead

So sayeth the book from desert nomads some thousand years ago, modified by a king some hundreds of years ago. The same book also contains, but is not limited to: Genital mutilation Smitings(Which no longer happen mysteriously.) Stoning to death for being gay. Glorifying rape(Forcing the rapist to marry the victim isn't a very good punishment, more of a reward.) And also many, many more deaths by God. But no, let's just say Jaweh is perfectly good.

@@willolol3353 Using the bible to prove the existence of God is circular reasoning. God validates the bible, therefore the bible validates God. If God is real we would need an outside resource that only focuses on factual evidence and doesn't waste time on loose information and parables. Honestly if he would just reveal himself in the modern era and actually fixed some of the worlds problems for once, that would probably suffice for most people. As it stands, a God that chooses to remain mysterious when his people need him is the same as not having a God at all.

@god32805 жыл бұрын
@@willolol3353 I worship no man and and adhere to nothing metaphysical as nothing but nonsense comes from that department, you are the one stuck in a bronze age psychological imprisonment where logic and reasoning are the handiwork of the devil and modern science only exists to separate you from your precious sky daddy. The true satanists I've met are just as silly and superstitious as yourself, but they do very little outside of play with cards, drink, and fuck like animals, ironically many of them are more forgiving and accepting of other than people who claim to worship a God of love, as you've just demonstrated, which is not a very good way to get people over to your side. Everything outside your comfortable Christian bubble is neccesarily evil and strange, it's a dirty trick that keeps you from ever wanting to leave. I would also like to mention once again that atheism is not a religion, it would exist without any sort of indoctrination, rules, apologists, rewards, punishments, holidays, or institutions, but without these things your religion would meet an untimely conclusion, if atheism is a form of worship, then sitting on the couch and drinking beer is a sport. I choose to speak against religious beliefs because religion doesn't understand live and let live, it only understands salvation and damnation, a false dichotomy that you not only should believe, but that you need to believe, but belief is not a choice. You are compelled by trust and substantial evidence, that is how belief works and ostracize me as much as you want. It will only harden my resolve, my beliefs are just as important to me as yours are to yourself and by our modern constitution, no one has the right to take them away. But this was not always the case, if you recall from the bible in the book of exodus, the punishment for breaking the commandments is death and thus thousands of Israelites were slaughtered for worshipping a molten calf god. Americans today would not have a problem with people worshipping whatever they want so long as their not a genuine danger to the safety of their community. No one religion has the right to bully the others, the great thing about freedom of religion is that you have to allow people to be wrong so that you can convince them of the truth without unnecessary force. This is the natural way to communicate and learn, the way of peace. Amen I say to you my fellow Christian, speak with reason and love not with hatred.
