I know that he said that and he is the author,but I just feel like he is messing with everyone.I mean,u can interpret that way,but there isn't anything in the song that doesn't allow the interpretation of the devil seducing a girl just for evil. And if he is falling in love and becoming a good person,he has a long way to go at the point of the song. He says that the person is ''under his power'' she has love him first so she knows how he feels,she has to live her life behind to go with him... Doesn't seem to me like a healthy relationship :)

Just to let you know, in case you read any of the comments that say that N.I.B. stands for "Nativity in Black" or "Name in Blood," don't pay any attention to any of them, it's all nonsense. The letters stand for nothing. Butler, who wrote the song, decided to call it "nib," which was the nickname for Ward's goatee at the time(it resembled a pen nib). He added the periods to make it stylish.

I was actually listening to the Sabbath Bloody Sabbath album yesterday on vinyl. I’ve got an original copy from ‘73. It still holds up strong. All the songs on that album are great. But yea, the title track was ahead of its time. That ‘loud/soft’ change between the verse and chorus was a very fresh idea at the time, I wasn’t born yet but I’m sure it was very cool to hear something like that back then. That song doesn’t get old and it never will.

I love this song because not only is its riffs (both bass and guitar), but also because while the song was written as a love song between Lucifer and a human, the lyrics are written in a way that you can never be *too* sure if this Lucifer is actually in love or is just using her. It's written equally genuine and cult leader-esque.

@@yarsivad000.5 I am going to have to disagree with you here. Dio's voice is better, but NOT for Black Sabbath. As far as I am concerned, Black Sabbath died when Ozzy was fired. Their sound completely changed overnight. They went from defining a genre to another generic band with a great vocalist. The magic formula included Ozzy & could be no other combination. If you want a great example of Dio's chops (vocally), listen to Stargazer, Temple of the King, etc when he was in Rainbow.
@grigoriorifiel

You are talking as if the only two vocalists for sabbath were Ozzy and Dio. Although there were several vocalists that didn't do anything in the studio I'm sure there are live videos on youtube with at least some of the eight other vocalists that performed with the band. I do know there are plenty of classic sabbath songs on here with Ian Gillian as their front man. I personally didn't listen to much of sabbath after Ozzy left and preferred Dio's Rainbow and solo works over his time with sabbath.

My wife recently told me what she believed was the difference between good and evil. She said the evil wants to control, the good has no such desire. We talked about examples from all superhero movies: every superhero has a villain who is almost equally or sometimes more intelligent, powerful, beautiful, loving, even loyal. But one key difference is that the villain always wants to use his abilities to assume control of something/someone whereas the superhero has no such desire. Was an interesting thought. Matches well with this song, sung by Lucifer, where he says he’s got the power, whereas God always stresses on love by free will. Every other sentence in the song, like Sori said, can be attributed to Jesus talking abut loving him. But it is the power line which doesn’t quite apply in his case, but does in the case of a Lucifer. Pretty impressive writing now that I think about it.

@@ChrisJohnson1988 If I had no prior listening to Black Sabbath EVER and did a cold listen to one album with Dio and one with Ozzy I would be answering to do I like the power vocals with the Sabbath sound or do I prefer the moody dark vocals with the Sabbath sound. The Dio fronted Sabbath I have heard via a double cd of "hits" called the Dio Years for Black Sabbath has me digging what he did with the band and it comes off as one flavor. Having heard another double cd's worth of "hits" with Ozzy as their frontman it comes off as a whole other flavor. I think it comes down to do you like the power vocals or the moody vocals... I like both... I think with Sabbath's sound, I'd prefer Ozzy but I wouldn't turn down some Dio tunes.

I'd love to see your reaction to "Dear Father" off the 13 album. Not sure any other group would have ever touched this topic. Sabbath has always been fearless.

watch the show Supernatural. its one hell of a commitment because there are hundreds of episodes but they have a really interesting take on the heaven and hell conflict. They cover pretty much any and all old time stories, lore, and biblical scripture, its really interesting. Also Misha Collins is great to watch portray an angel trying to understand humans. great show.

Great review....good observations on the music itself, and nice to see a reaction to a classic metal song! Ozzy and Lucifer were once good friends, right up until Ozzy starting drinking heavy!
