"I was born without you baby, but my feelings were a little bit too strong." This song as well as other songs by Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Stones, etc. proves that Blues music is the base of Rock and roll, Rock, Hard Rock, Southern Rock, Metal and to some extents, Heavy Metal and some Punk Rock.

Ozzy made a mistake with the lyrics. This is a cover song and the actual lyrics are "I was warned about you, baby." When you understand the original lyrics, the song makes more sense.

The heavy "Hand Of Doom" sound of Iommi's iconic SG almost sounded totally different, save for a malfunction! From Wikipedia...Iommi began recording the album with a white Fender Stratocaster, his guitar of choice at the time, but a malfunctioning pickup forced him to finish recording with a Gibson SG, a guitar he had recently purchased as a backup but had "never really played". The SG was a right-handed model which the left-handed Iommi played upside down. Soon after recording the album, he met a right-handed guitarist who was playing a left-handed SG upside down, and the two agreed to swap guitars; this is the SG that Iommi modified and later "put out to pasture" at the Hard Rock Cafe.[4]

"Warning", and the whole BS first album, Blew my mind in 1969 !! Three years out of High School !! This song was written by Ainsley Dunbar, a rock drummer, back in the day... who played with Zappa for years. I went back to the store and bought the last 4 albums they had and wore them ALL, OUT !! Finally in the mid 1980's (when CD's were invented), I bought the whole Sabbath catalog, about 7 albums. Been a fan ever since 1969. I'm 74 years young !! Love you guys !!

I had the privilege of attending the Kansas City , MO show during the first Black Sabbath US tour in 1970 or 71. 3rd row, right in front of Ozzie. Tony was on the right. Of course, with only two albums released they pretty much played their whole catalog. Tony played this whole solo in its entirety. Spellbinding. I saw Jimi Hendrix as my first concert. This was better. I don't believe that Black Sabbath ever equaled their first two albums in later years. The originality, freshness and variety of musical styles expressed on the first two are what sets them apart, IMHO. Love both your reactions to this. It still spellbinds after 50 years. It makes my heart glad. :)

If this is your song between you and your wife, then you ought to know that Ozzy screwed up the lyrics. Just imagine that the song that you adore is a lie. The actual lyrics are, "I was warned about you, baby." Once you understand that, then the song actually makes sense rather than some stupid thing about being born without you.

@@virtualpilgrim8645 I know the original song. The aspect that makes this song ours is not the lyrics. It's 100% the music. The subject matter could have been popsicles and it wouldn't matter.

Watching you both listening to this song for the first time makes me feel what I felt back then 34 years ago. I played these records so often, exploring the music, trying to figure out the lyrics (I'm not a native english speaker) and where thrilled by the sound. Thanks for the throwback! Love, Michael

Toni used primarily blues pentonic finger positions for the leads. He went from Dm to Em back and forth. This style is what made it sound so different, but "right" at the same time. I recommend any guitarist to learn parts of this song for ideas and experience. I did, and MAN, did it make my leads sound more full (yeah, much good English, I know).

The Warning is one of my favorite ever heavy metal songs and based on its vintage with the legendary Black Sabbath it probably is one of the best ever. Sleeping Village, which is just before this song on the album, is a great intro and you have to pair them up. I have been a lifetime fan of Black Sabbath and it keeps evolving with me long after they are gone. In junior high was into Iron Man along with Metallica. In high school it was the Paranoid album and the Deo years. Now I circle back to Toni Lomi's massive guitar on his somewhat scary first album and Ozzy's youthful voice. These guys were the best ever heavy metal band.
