Vane needed to re-establish himself. That was the point of Low’s character, he was what Vane pretended to be to have the respect and intimidation factor, even though in his private moments we’ve seen him being sensitive and emotional. He needed to take down Low and make a statement that he’s back in full force. So the island knew that even if Low weren’t powerful enough to survive Vane’s anger, nobody was. That’s kind of the thing with 10 episode seasons, things need to go fast. A lot of other things went down. And we needed the England plot to move through Ash’s daughter, it’s extremely important to the show. Low had her and was intending to use her for ransom, time was ticking. I was personally fine with it, because it led to Vane’s two finest moments, the “I angered Charles Vane” bit and his rescuing of Flint, one of the best season finales I’ve ever seen.
