wtf is a "white" name? There are Irish, English, Scottish, Welsh, Dutch, German etc etc etc. What is this whole "white" thing" where I come from we call names and people by the nation or culture that they come from or simply our nation.

***** I feel the reason why names like McKenzie aren't as funny (to me), is because there so average and plain (I heard them a million). I find names like Decarter and Depaula funny, because of my experiences with the people around my area; I could see some one in my area saying those names in very funny manner (I don't mean to sound offensive or anything, by finding these names funny).

***** I find all types of names funny; Hispanic, Asian, African, Caucasian, Indian, Purple People, Green People, etc. and yeah, I see you're point, I didn't mean it in a downgrading way. If i met another human being with an outlandish name, I would still let there character define them. Although, I probably would still laugh (but not in a disrespectful ridicule way, but in a silly and fun way). Names make all types of people unique, no matter how outlandish/funny they sound.

Stereotypical Black Male Names: Jerome, André, DeAndré, Dwayne, Jamal, Tyrone, Jermaine, Jaeqwan Stereotypical Black Female Names: Shaniqua (I know 2), Shamika, Tamika, Latoya, Jasmine, Kendra, Ashanti Stereotypical White Male Names: John, Steve, Michael, Tom, Garry, Rich Stereotypical White Female Names: Sarah, Tiffany, Britney, Susan, Jane, Emma Stereotypical Stripper Names: Diamond, Sparkle, Divine, Kiki, Asia, Paris and other names of cities and continents. Of course, as I've stated above, these are just stereotypical names. Oh, and I don't mean to offend anyone but the majority of western names are kinda boring IMHO.

Nothing wrong with having a "boring" name. A name creates an image of a person long before meeting a person. There are times a name best suited for a pet or a precocious name does not serve a person well.

I went to South Africa with a team, and they raised eyebrows at our team's names, and ours were pretty generic. It's a cultural thing. One sounds common and normal to you, but others think it sounds odd and have a hard time pronouncing it.

People always remember Tyrone but thee name Tyrone is believed to derive from the Greek “Turannos” meaning “sovereign” or “king.” Additionally, Tryone is a location name in Ulster county in northern Ireland, which is believed to derive from the Irish Gaelic “Tir Eoghain”meaning “land of Eoghan” or “land of the noble.

Most names are names that are common to both sides people forget. John Henry, Thomas Jefferson, Fredrick Douglas, Mathew Henson, Jesse Owens, Hank Aaron, Sam Lacy, Adam Clayton Powell Jr., Joe Louis, Josephine Baker, William Haste, Harriet Tubman, Elijah McCoy, Fred Jones, Lloyd Hall, Charles Drew, Larry Doby, George Washington Carver. All famous Black men and women. With Names considered white by these people, It isn't white versus black names, it's Ratchet versus Respected. It's not just back in the day either. This is just a perpetuated stereotype.

I know black people with both "black" names and "white" names. But only know white people with "white" names. White people aren't too creative with names, creativity for white people I noticed (when it comes to names) is giving girls more "boy-sounding" names. Example: Riley, Blake, Ryan, Avery, Dylan, Aidan, Hayden (you get it).

+CHEL The trouble with many of these "black" names is who generally is going to know how to spell them? I would not want to go through life constantly having to tell someone how to spell or say my name. Like Ian Ziering, pronouncing his name I-on when 99.9% of Ians say E-an. Also there are black people called Yvonne, which is pronounced E-von not Y-von.

Generally speaking, (this is excluding Texas) white parents usually try to give their kids traditional names, actually I can say the same thing for hispanic parents, but often black parents often make up the names, meaning they want to give their children unique names that aren't overly used, because how many people do you know that are named John or Ryan.

I think this video is fascinating. In the city of Pittsburgh and probably other industrial cities with lots of immigrants during the industrial revolution, you'll meet a lot of older people where their more unique ethnic names were changed by teachers in schools or ministers in church. Speaking from only the Slavic background that I know, their birth names like mihal, Jozef, juraj, hanichka, Agnieszka, etc were changed by teachers to be more American, which passed down from their memories to their children. Their goal was to be more American. It's sad since in my city you see a complete die out of ethnic heritage, which of course was spawned by social politics and the collapse of the industrial revolution.

Allie S That may be, but in modern era those names are considered black names now. Just like last names Washington, Johnson, Jefferson are European, but are now known to be predominate black surnames. I'm black and my last name is Newton, an old English name. Based off of history, we know why black people have european last names. They're our identity now ::shrug::

My ancestors were abolitionists. They were against slavery. And all those names are still being used by White people, they're just not being used by White people here in America, as much as, they're used in Britain. And come on! It's not like Black people were the only ones in history to be slaves.
@allies7184
@allies7184 8 жыл бұрын
Sorry but slavery for blacks was not worse than it was for whites in Europe. There was some Africans in Europe at that time, but the whites far out populated the Blacks. So more slaves were white, and a master could do anything he wanted with his slaves, even kill them. Many white slaves were sacrificed to gods to make amends for their master's faults. and on a side note none of my abolitionist ancestors owned slaves, however, if they knew that their sacrifice, aka, getting caught by the authorities for harboring slaves, would eventually make those slaves' descendants blame the whites for everything, perhaps they would have changed their minds.

Back in the 1970's, there was a mini series on tv called "Roots" and after it ran, there were mothers naming their black babies after characters from the show. Roots gave black people an opportunity to connect with their roots, hence the creative and exotic names given to black babies since that time. And white people are generally of European descent, so culturally, they still connect with names associated with their roots, although there are deviations from that, with white mothers wanting to give their white babies distinctive names or spellings, such as Destiny, Mystery, Jewel, Jhane, Sioux, Konnor, to name a few. Name your kids whatever, just not a name that might embarrass them. I know a guy in his 60s whose first name is Thomas and his last name is Thomas. Thomas Thomas. It's memorable, right?

Later he approaches this girl and the conversation goes like this: C: Are you waiting for someone? J: Yes, i'm waiting on my brother. C: What's your name? J: Jane C:Jane? That's it? J: Yes, what's wrong with Jane?! C: Nothing, I love that name, it's a beautiful name!

Americans are quite ignorance of thinking the black names are blacks names when in fact name such as "marcus, markus" are German names, Damian is irish, Jamal is Arabic, "Lemarcus"? "le" is french word for "the", marcus,markus as i said are Germans. so you add le + marcus , technically there's french and german in it. marcus/markus means "of mars" taken from the roman fertility god which how "March" came about? I don't know what you people are trying to say here. Here are a few examples of authentic african names that blacks should use for their children. Amare Kwame Feechi Ekon Zane Isabis Jafari Daliah Haji Sabra Kalifa Imani Asha Lulu Uma Maha Bahati.

Your name sounds distinctive and masculine. Good first name and lucky to be born with a good last name, one that doesn't sound dorky.
