'Ursa' in the prison scene (Alexei broke his wrist) is also probably another Soviet Super Soldier named Ursa Major. The SSS was the Soviet analog of the Avengers. Crimson Dynamo, Darkstar, Gremlin, and Vanguard were other members, along with a few others off and on. I doubt they'll actually have them ever show up as a team, but it's a neat little inside joke for old comics readers.

I love how impartial you are without comic knowledge biasing you how it biased most of the rest of the fandom. I agree that this was a good movie. It's obviously not as good as Infinity War or Endgame, but still an enjoyable watch. ScarJo is a really, really good actress and Florence Pugh is really good as Yelena. David Harbor was really funny and his performance really surprised me after having only seen him from Stranger Things. I think the biggest thing you missed was that they were a family of Russian spies sent over during the Cold War, but you got there. You went into this movie not knowing that spies aren't James Bond, but are your neighbors and friends, and that isn't something most people ever think about. Spies will look like you, talk like you, might even have originally been born and raised citizens of your country. The biggest thing that made people upset was Antonia as the character Taskmaster. In the comics Taskmaster is a very real and dangerous threat to whoever he is fighting. Avengers usually have to team up to beat him. This version of the character wasn't that much of a threat and is not the same person as the comics. Frankly, I don't really have strong opinions about Taskmaster. The concept never really interested me and there is no must read Taskmaster comic, so I am fine with this version, but if they were a character you were really excited about I can see why this might be a let down. Here is a link to a quora post with a really well thought out explanations of the character. www.quora.com/Does-Marvels-Taskmaster-have-a-limit-to-the-number-of-skills-he-can-duplicate-at-one-time Fun video. This movie more or less verified a long held suspicion. Widows also get a diluted version of the super soldier serum. It’s the only thing that makes any sense out of the “genetic potential in infants” line. Potential for what? To become assassins? No. To tolerate and get value from a formula that increased both resilience and probably strength as well. They suggested more than once she’s a bit more resilient than average. In this movie alone. It’s not half as effective as the super soldier serum, but they wouldn’t want it to be. Another thing of note. As awful as the Red Room is, and it’s absolutely awful, they accidentally did the world a favor stealing the secret to mind control from Hydra. Red Guardian, striking a blow against an ancient enemy of his homeland without even knowing it.

In the comics, Alexei was married to Natasha. Both of them were Soviet Agents where Natasha took the name, Black Widow while Alexei became a Soviet fighter pilot. Alexei rose through the Air Force's ranks quickly and was chosen to undergo an experiment when the Russian Govt. felt they needed a Captain America equivalent. His death was faked and while he chose to remain loyal to Soviet Union, Natasha defected to the US. During a battle between Red Guardian and the Avengers, Natasha recognizes him. He later dies protecting her and Captain America.

One of the hard things to get pop culture people to understand about comic book movies is how things happen in the superhero narrative and adaptations. These characters are in the comics but they are nothing like them. Even in the comics when new writers come along there are changes to the comic stories. So it is with live action adaptations of comics and fantasy/Sci Fi stories. Also the "superhero narrative" is hard for normal pop culture to understand. Our real instinct of just killing someone you consider "bad" is a real human failing. To tell the superhero narrative you have to have that conflict of weather to take a life or spare a life but in the end the superhero chooses life. With out it they are not superheroes. This is such a familiar theme in almost any fictional narrative of the hero of a story. People struggle with this because they consider someone like Anakin Skywalker a hero yet you have to come to terms with him becoming Darth Vader and killing thousands over the times of the story. Another one of our human failings is we tend to forgive the good looking or people who fit our bias of a good person. All of this is fruit for a good comic book story.

@@maxducoudray Yep the redemption narrative is a big part of fiction storytelling. Darth Vader, Punisher, Loki (MCU), Magneto, Lex Luthor... All of those characters have had some story told that they have been forgiven for all their crimes just because. Its a typical comic trope and will always be part of the stories. In reality it is just not a thing for the most part. There are real stories of some real horrible people being forgiven in pop culture but not on the level like we do in fantasy and sci fi.

5:20-5:25 "Can it fly with him there?" While it certainly is not ideal, yes the plane can, in fact, fly with him there. I am familiar with aircraft of this size and engine type. I'm no professional/commercial pilot, but he isn't enough drag nor enough disruption of lift to reduce the aircraft's flight by more than a small of its flying range. 11:05-11:13 Cristy: "You have to go get gas... so you can, light your trailer." If you mean illuminate, yes. If you mean set it on fire, no. She was trying to re-start the gasoline powered generator, it's out of fuel, and she doesn't have extra in the gas can. Not really sure where to put this timestamp wise, but by this point, the Budapest Safe House has been mentioned more than once, Nat's "friend" picked up things from there and delivered them to her trailer when she wanted him to bring her supplies at the trailer. That's how the case got to Natasha. Obviously were didn't get to see on camera how Natasha emptied the case and left it for the. I'm going to call that "hunter", to think the contents were still accessible. Just know this comment is timed sometime around the bridge fight scene that followed the timestamps above, and precedes the timestamp I'm sure I will have below. At the time of meeting each other at the safe house, Yelena doesn't _know_ if Natasha is under the influence of the mind control substance, and Natasha doesn't _know_ she can trust Yelena, nor can Natasha even be absolutely sure this _is_ Yelena. 17:50-18:05 "Conversation's spicy" At least you caught on that they weren't actually sisters, I've seen so many people miss that piece of conversation and be shocked later. 21:46-21:48 "He has to be a superhuman" You caught this at the prison break, not when he flipped a multi ton vehicle end over end in the 1995 flashback with 1 hand 31:00-31:12 I wonder how you're going to feel about those words shortly. [Can't wait to see] 40:41-41:04 There it is, you want them all back together as a family. As for "Where is this falling, into what city?" First, 2/3 of the earth is covered in ocean. Second very large sections of land in North America, Antarctica and Eurasia are very sparsely populated. That it will land on a city is very presumptive (although, understandable in a movie). Final end credit scene is the _only_ (spoiler/revelation) reason this couldn't have been released before Endgame. I personally hesitated to watch this movie because of the blatant issue of "The title character can't die, because it has to be set in her past, since we know her future." [Sorry, life stays unbalanced, so I actually came to this reaction after seeing your reaction to Ep 1 of Hawkeye]

Movie was okay. A bunch to enjoy, and a bunch of fun, but got a little too ridiculous for a character that's supposed to be relatively more grounded. Yelena was an absolute highlight though. Movie should have happened in Phase 3, if anything. P.S. This was originally supposed to be the start of Phase 4, but when the country/world got shut down due to the pandemic, plans shifted and they released WandaVision, Falcoln and the Winter Soldier, and Loki first on Disney+, before Black Widow was finally able to get a theatrical release, which was joined by a streaming release not long after. The whole world of streaming releases changed drastically for the long haul in that time period.

The people who run these channels, and in many cases make a living from them, do so by providing completely blind first time reactions. They don't need or want you to tell them things to look forward to, they are going to keep watching the movies, it's their job. They intentionally keep themselves away from any spoilers for upcoming movies. ANY. Great reaction like always, this movie beautifully honors the iconic Natasha Romanoff, who finally receives the respectful, worthy solo film that her unforgettable legacy always deserved. Scarlett Johansson shines one last time. There are some fun-facts about it, the film was almost made before the MCU even existed, in 2004, David Hayter struck a deal with Lionsgate to write and direct a film featuring Black Widow. In 2006, Lionsgate dropped the project, and while Hayter and Marvel tried, they couldn’t find another studio to finance the film. Hayter moved on, though he said he was “heartbroken” about it. Johansson picked the director, eventually, Marvel whittled those directors down to three names: Amma Asante, Maggie Betts, and Cate Shortland. Johansson was a fan of Shortland’s film Lore and was the one who reached out to her about directing the film. That sway likely helped, as Shortland did end up getting the directorial job. Johansson, an executive producer on the film, and Feige decided the best time to set Black Widow would be after the events of Captain America: Civil War. Given the character’s death in Avengers: Endgame, a contemporary film was impossible. Early on, there was going to be a scene between Tony Stark and Natasha in the film, but it was nixed. Shortland and Feige decided they didn’t want any other Marvel heroes in the film, so Natasha could be the sole focus and carry the onus of her story. One character was changed from the comics. In the comics, Taskmaster is a mercenary named Tony Masters. He’s also a dude. In Black Widow, Taskmaster is turned into Antonia Dreykov to tie the character into the film's story. Interestingly, Olga Kurylenko’s turn as Taskmaster was completely missing from any promotional material for the movie. In the post-credits scene, Julia Louis-Dreyfus appears as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. This was supposed to be the introduction of the character. However, COVID-19 changed those plans. Things got moved around, and Val first appeared in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier instead. The post-credits scene was added at the behest of Hawkeye showrunner Jonathan Igla. Disney was doing Premier Access during the pandemic, but the first time they announced revenue was for Black Widow. The company said Black Widow made $67 million in Disney+ first-weekend rentals. That is solid, especially considering that, according to reports, Black Widow was the most-pirated film of the pandemic. Johansson sued Disney over the simultaneous release, calling it a breach of contract that kept her from potential box-office bonuses. What followed was a couple of months teeming with bad-faith arguments and general unpleasantness because lawsuits bring out the worst in a lot of people, especially at such a high corporate level where billionaires and millionaires are fighting through high-salaried lawyers. After a few months, Disney and Johansson came to an undisclosed settlement. Keep up the good work.

Ivan vanko the villain from Iron Man 2 was called whiplash but he also was inspired by the crimson Dynamo that's the armor Ivan wore during the final battle with war machine and Iron Man. Thaddeus thunderbolt Ross was in The incredible Hulk movie and Captain America civil war which this movie takes place after and before the Black panther movie in the MCU timeline. Ross was played by William hurt who has died and now will be played by Harrison Ford in Captain America 4. The MCU differ from the comic books like the fact red guardians with a father figure to Black widow win in the comic book they were in a relationship. Also there is a fan theory about Milana AKA The Iron maiden who actually might be in charge of the Red room because she said she's been through the Black widow program 3 times before Natasha was born. Melina has been through the Red room because it has been an organization that existed throughout the years under different names like the organization within an agent Carter series Leviathan. There was a different head of Leviathan before general Dreykov was placed in charge of it. So is natural she would have seniority over him.

How much of the plot relies on the convenient placement of two different cameras and the inexplicable assumption the most secretive, most effective assassin of the 20th century doesn’t know what a camera is? Too much. We’re supposed to believe T’Challa jumped into his aircraft to follow Steve and Bucky, but took the time to tattle on Nat? It seems out of character. This Red Guardian is a mix by Natasha Romanoff' husband, Alexi Shostakoff, and Ivan Petrovich, the man who saved Natasha life, when she was a child, and became a sort of father.

I really love the core family in this movie. The actors are all great and the dynamic is fun to watch. The flaw of the movie that the villain is boring. The main plot and antagonist being a let down doom this to be a more mediocre entry in the MCU for me.

This movie should have been released before _Captain Marvel_ because the backstory of a dead character is far less interesting than a live one. Marvel really fumbled the last few films.

Such an odd position that having a family means your life is more valuable. I have no children. Let's say I have liver failure. Should a man with a kid be higher than me on the transplant list?
@CristyReacts
@CristyReacts Ай бұрын
It's not about value, it's about leaving children without a father. This was a decision Clint and Natasha had to make themselves, not the same as a transplant list for a medical procedure. It makes sense that this would be a factor to consider.

Natasha also never have kids, Clint and his family was her family, just as Natasha is like Clint for Yelena, Natasha life is kinda more valuable than Yelena, now then Natasha is dead Yelena probably not manage become that important, sure lot people want Yelena just find replacement for Natasha in new character, what just make her seem very very easy replaceable (while Clint as close to Natasha seem consider her irreplaceable)
