When I was a child, I was often told that I was “trying to be white“ because I will speak proper and have my pants up. My parents came from the hood, and my parents said that I would not be like that. So they taught me a different way and help me transverse in society better. The consequence to that was I wasn’t accepted by my own people; especially our women. So, I stop dating black women. I still help our community, and I still stand up for them; we share a lot of commonalities, and go through a lot of the similar misfortunes. but it is a shame that we are ostracized by our own people because we may sound and dress a little different. Irony of ironies.

Stop basing your "community" or your "people" based on color. Your community and "people" should be people that have similar beliefs, goals and ambitions. Not because they look like you.

I got that too, the talking white thing. Why is it striving and speaking well - being white. What an insult!
@asxulxetesteronsxez538
@asxulxetesteronsxez538 Жыл бұрын
@@mistermr.6938 thing is, people do both at the same time. People want to be around others with the same ideas and beliefs and behaviors. And the easiest identifiers are physical and visible. “Acting white” just means that you don’t act the way that people I want to be around do. Moreover, you act the way the “other” group does. If your color is very important to you, and your culture is important to you, then those lines become blurred.

As a teacher of 13/14 year old kids, I see blacks being meaner to each other than whites would ever dream of being. All races have bullies- but the successful black students are bullied by blacks who hate school and hate society norms. I’m old but we didn’t do that - why are we going backwards? I know it’s not “cool” to do well in school- but it’s really hard for my black students 😢 They are strong and will succeed- their white friendships and blacks with similar beliefs will support them.

@@valmuniz6222 I'm White. My sister was a teacher, for about 30 years, in an Inner-City Neighborhood (Grades 2 - 4). Back in 1993, I remember her saying some Students would shame other students who were doing their work, & trying to succeed. They'd scold them with the phrase, "What? You trying to be White?" I was shocked!! I had no idea how difficult it was, for Inner City students who wanted to "succeed". I realized they had to be really STRONG, to continue on the path to success, because they had so many people who were trying to tear them down.

My black friend never left the house without a 2-3 hour ordeal. She had to do her calisthenics, shower lotion all that stuff then iron her jeans and shirt then do the hair thing then spray it all with this and that. While I looked like a white hippy chic. She had the best grooming and cleanliness and organization of anyone I ever knew. And neither one of us had money then. It does not take money to be respectable in any of those ways.

People were so surprised cause he has such a strong southern accent and people think he is some redneck but he is a Southern gentlemen! My mom did the same thing and worked herself like a DOG! She works harder than 2 men half her age still 🤣 but anyway, she struggled with depression BADLY, and they didn't do a lot of medication for depression back then, nor could we have afforded it if they did. So she had to figure out how to cope and still function to be there for us kids. She would wake up, make her bed, get dressed and ready for her day, do something with her hair and use a bit of makeup and perfume. Then she'd clean up the house so that she "didn't get dragged down by the mess." That's how she battled it. She didn't always feel like it, and people judged her as snobby and some even called her a whore because she was always "made up," but she felt better about herself when she looked good and THAT kept her from sinking in her depression. She gave me the same advice when I was horribly depressed and she'd call for progress updates 😂 not to ask how I felt, because she said that always made her feel worse, buy she'd ask if I did my hair, makeup, made my bed.. to take my mind to a productive place rather than the rut I was in. It probably saved me.

That's not a stereotype black people have! That's a stereotype for ALL young people who do thug things, like drinking in street corners and being a public menace. I grew up in a poor town. If we look back in time, “black” music shifted from people like Louis Armstrong, Marvin Gaye, the Temptations, MJ etc to gangster rap of the 90s, which still dominates today. You guys are right about the "music"!! Rap music has destroyed so much of what the black community had overcome ( from the "Jim Crow" south), by rising up an being pillars of the black community, but also as an American citizen. They had pride in what they accomplished, and owned their own business and home. Now, why is that bad? Because, rap made it cool to be a thug and/or a thugette⁉️ People are individuals no matter what your skin color! Live up to your own ideas and dreams for your life, with the underlying meaning to your life, being to be the best person you can be, no matter what anyone else thinks you should act like. I see a lot of black people with more of a tribal attitude towards life and forsaking their individual identify. That's sad, and will lead to an unhappy existence😢 You guys seem to have it together! Praise to your parents for raising you right. THANX for the discussion!

Black culture created jazz and blues, two very American inventions, they influenced rock music and other genres. Original rap music from the 80s genuinely expressed the black experience. However there were many opportunists who cashed in on black anger, the whole thug life and gangsta culture being cool, meanwhile those pushing the songs, lyrics and attitudes got rich while black on black crime stats rose. You’re right about the tribal attitudes, promoted by the far left through constant BS terms such as racism, white supremacy etc. Play on their inferiority complex and innate victimhood to exploit them. Look at the political spectrum to see who wants to exploit blacks politically, luckily it looks like more and more ‘minorities’ are waking up to the manipulation and saying ‘no more!’.

I graduated high school in 1978. I was blessed to go to a school with kids of all races. My black friends usually had higher grades than I did, but there was always one or two black kids in the school who would cajole them about acting white because they were smart. It hurt me back then to hear them accused like that, but they succeeded. I'm still in touch with a few of them, and they are doing fine. I worry about the one or two who accused them though. I am a 63 year old white guy who does physical labor for a living, and I do love it. But no one ever accuses me of acting black. We are all made in the image of the same God, and I celebrate the success of all of my friends, and never think about what color their skin is. It makes me so mad that those who can't try and tear down those who can.

So i live in Panama and here the black locals just showed me what it means to dress appreciate. There is outfits for at home, for in our hometown, for on the mainland etc... I love it. I've seen my neighbor dressed like a queen for town meetings and in old stretched out pyjamas when we wash laundry after a rainy day 😂. People here already understand how important this is

First off, much love from the East Side, OKC!! What people need to understand is that you are judge on how you dress, how you carry yourself, your manners, and how you speak. You represent your family, culture, and what you think about yourself. You are your own “business card.”

I have never liked seeing anyone out in their pyjamas and bonnets on. And I have seen white and black women doing the same. Yes I get there are times when we are going through struggles, but for some people it is just lazyness. What example are you setting for your kids when you can't even be bothered to get dressed properly to take them to school? I was raised in a Jamaican household and this sort of behaviour was never tolerated. Good hygiene standards and looking presentable was a must.

There is a black owned men's store where I live, run by a father and son. Those men look so sharp when I go in there. I feel like I need to dress up a little before I go in just to respect them and to have them take me seriously. You think those men would come to work in pajama pants?? Hell no, they are helping lawyers dress for court. I'll pay $100 for a dress shirt in their store because when I walk in, they look sharp, and I take them seriously. Looking presentable isn't a white thing, it is something you do when you want to be successful, plain and simple.

I am from the UK and this was very interesting to me. Where I live I have only ever seen white women go out in public in PJs. I even said to my Husband once that I feel they don't have respect for themselves to go out in public like that. I also live near a church and the black church goers are always beautifully turned out.

I am not black myself so I can't even pretend to know what it's like personally, but I have seen my best friend of many years struggle. He is a phenomenal human. Extremely intelligent, eloquent, kind, hilarious, caring, one of the hardest working people I know, just all the good things. But he's expressed to me that he has struggled throughout his life with feeling very judged by others in the community, being told he isn't "black enough". Simply because he chooses to wear preppy clothes, loves school and speaks better than anyone else I know. He has been teased and mocked for "talking white". What's so crazy about the accusations against him is he knows black history like the back of his hand. He loves being black, and the way he dresses, speaks, or behaves doesn't make him any less black. He told me he has experienced the teasing, harassment, and hateful comments for a as long as he can remember. Of course not everyone treats him this way, plenty of people uplift him. But I never realized how much he'd dealt with until he opened up about it. Thankfully the older we've gotten the less it bothers him because he sees now that anyone who puts him down isn't worth listening to. But it still happens to him and I just don't get it. He would be a wonderful representative of any community, no matter what race he happened to be. Your race is your race. There is no specific criteria that must be met. Just be yourself and the people who genuinely care about you will appreciate and uplift you. Those who don't cheer you on when success happens, and instead hate on you for it, aren't worth your time or energy.

African Americans and people from the islands ( Jamaica, Trinidad, west india ) have 2 different cultures Don't lump them together
@morganr4426
@morganr4426 Жыл бұрын
@@ralphpal what?? I never brought up people from the islands and I certainly wasn't lumping anyone together. That is literally the entire point of my post, that we should not be lumping people together. That there is no single way to be black or express yourself as a black person. I was simply discussing my friend's experience as a way to illustrate that point. And I clearly said that not everyone does that to him and many people in the black community treat him no differently and praise his successes. I suppose I could have put the caveat that we live in America, but I thought that was a given, as the video was discussing being black in the U.S. I am not pretending to know even the first thing about the black community in other areas of the globe. But I'm not disparaging anyone from a particular part of the world, nor am I generalizing all black people from all countries. I only dislike the people, of ANY race and from any nation, who try to dictate to others how they should behave or present themselves simply because of their race.

There were Black millionaires in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1921. There were thriving Black communities across the country in 1921. So....... there always have been successful Black citizens. If Greenwood, Oklahoma would have been allowed to grow to this day. There would be a great deal of generational wealth passed on by these Black prominent citizens to their descendants that they should be enjoying now.

I mean, who the hell would want to visit their local dentist office in PAJAMAS???? The only way I see that as acceptable behaviour is if you were a hospital in-patient and had to visit the hospital dentist directly from your ward bed. And as for people calling this business anti-black for requiring a basic level of decorum; what planet are they on? Just when I thought expectations for blacks could't get any lower, the perpetually offended took it down another notch.
