It's hard to know when you need help with your mental health. It's even harder to admit that you might need help. For Yasmine Jameelah (the Founder of Transparent Black Girl), Andrea Dalzell (RN & and COO for Access Project Harlem), D'Shonda Brown (Culture and Entertainment Expert and Editor) open up about their journey, Dr. La Shawn Paul (Owner of Social Work Diva, Mental Health Therapist, Consultant), & Amaka Gratia (Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and Mental Health Consultant) shed light on the stigmas and receiving help.

Many of us are the first ones to have a career in corporate America. No one prepares us for the micro aggressions, scrutiny & racism we face in the workplace. Toxic work environments can disrupt Black Women’s mental health.

Yes. This. No one prepared us for this!!! We did all the “right” things. Got the degrees. Jobs. Careers. Etc. then we still are not seen as “enough”.

I believe an over saturation of media like the Grio has put these women in a mindset that everything is an issue or offensive. This video shows it is effecting the younger generation more. The younger generation complain about working and micro aggressions, and the older generation complains about career advancement and people hating on them. This is a result of the type of content they consume creating this anxiety and depression. Let’s be real ladies, it’s time to dump feminism. If you’re not too old, don’t have a lot of debt and don’t have a lot of bodies find a nice guy who is willing to provide for you, marry you, so you can be home and raise children. A high percentage of these mental health issue for women are career based. The video is proof.

I’m not understanding how this explains mental health… I suffered with mental illness all my life and didn’t know it I got diagnosed at 21 years of age I’m 27 now and just started doing research today I was in disbelief for 6 years but still had to get help I’ve been taking medicine since I was 21 and literally can’t function with out it! P.S: I suffer with bipolar schizoaffective disorder and a person who suffers with major depression I don’t use it as a disability tho at all! Having a real mental illness is nothing to play with! This video was definitely weird🙄
