This is the second massive jump in F-Zero / F-Zero 99. Unlike the White Land II jump, no matter how fast you're going, this jump seems to be impossible to clear in F-Zero SNES without holding down. Even boosting won't clear it. However, in F-Zero 99, a speed of at least 434 km/h will be able to clear it, although it's not guaranteed every time. I'm not sure if it's possible to clear it at any speed lower than 434 km/h. Also what's interesting is that when clearing it at 434 km/h, the blue falcon sort of stumbled and created dust and sparks, which might be an indicator that I just barely survived.

They didn't shorten it, but they did effectively shorten it: 1. the render distance in F-99 is a bit farther 2. the camera angle in F-99 is a bit less steep 3. the jump pads were "buffed" in F-99 4. the effective speeds compared to the length of the tracks may have been tinkered with

I like how you get the dust and crunching sound at 0:22. It implies your machine slammed onto the corner of the ramp and just barely made it!

That's what I was thinking, too. It even looked like there were sparks.

Isn’t also possible that they buffed the ramps? I look at the comparisons and I think they buffed the ramps and not necessarily shortened the jump. Or it could also be both.

If you look closely, you see that they both rise and fall at the same rate, and also hit the ground at the same time.

I think the answer as to whether or not it was shortened is in the arrow. The answer, this time, is yes, and there's no weird slight layout change like there is in White Land II. As simply and accurately as I can put it, the arrow was made 4 tiles longer, and 1 tile wider. As well, the ramp into the jump was also widened by a single tile. You'll also note that the section following that was made wider as well. There seems to have been a lot of subtle alterations to the tracks so that playing with 99 other idiots around you isn't but _so_ infuriating an experience.

The speed values suggest for 99 they made it so the Golden Fox's top speed is the minimum requirement for making the jump without holding down (though it can dip to 433, so wonder if the Golden Fox can fail the jump with unfortunate timing).

Given that Classic Mode in 99 stayed true to the original's jump height, it was not an uncommon sight to see half the grid crashing out on that jump back when the mode first released

I wouldn't say it's shorter (Mini-map is consistent with the SNES version), but more like the jump pads got buffed and a couple of other factors (Ex: Improved render distance, angle is less steep, etc). If you look frame by frame, SNES version falls sooner than 99 version.

The 433 probably isn't a fair test as you weren't going completely straight when you hit the jump plate - but slightly to the left.

I don't think the boost makes that much difference for this test. When jumping, speed is capped at 478 in both games. The boost is only beneficial if your speed is significantly lower than 478, since you will spend more time accelerating to the speed cap during the jump, thus shortening the jump, otherwise.

Yes they did, the tracks are shorter, and you go slower to compensate, that is why it takes the same time to finish. This is not necessarily a bad thing, it makes the game easier to play to have more appeal.

White land 2 jump is shorter as well D:

Though the White Land II jump could still be done in the SNES version without holding down if you hit the right speed. The Red Canyon jump appears to have always required holding down even if you boost and 99 no longer has that requirement.

@evilblader7 - Yeah, I did a video for White Land II's jump as well. You can see it here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y7mgmcuFvrWopp8.html

they sould have keeped thos big jumps the same in white land 2 and red canyon 2. but they i did that so even new players that never played a single f-zero game will enjoy it this game is for both casral players and hard core fans.

Oh my god, calm the fuck down, why are y'all going insane over some jumps, the game isn't going to be a 1:1 copy of the original but with more players (if it was, we all would be dead in port town 2), so there are going to be slight changes.
