Keeping your leather working tools sharp will save you a huge headache. Trying to use dull tools is a huge pain and makes your work look like crap. For the few seconds it takes to strop your leather working tools and knives, just do it.

My name is Tim. Thanks for checking out my KZfaq channel. I started leather working in July of 2020. My passion for leather work quickly grew as I learned and practiced. I received a ton of help from the leather working community when I was new and now I aim to pass on what I learn to other beginner leather workers. I post weekly leather craft videos that include tutorials, free pdf pattern templates, how to's, tips and tricks, and any other leather work content that I think could help you out!

Timely video for me! I was just researching how to make my own strop! Off to the hardware store tomorrow. Thanks so much!

Great video. I always thought I kept my blades sharp. Just sharpened them once I had difficulty cutting. Boy was I wrong. With the struggle of cutting and some other things I ended up with Carpel tunnel. I think from now on I'll do a good strop after ever job, a quick strop before and while working.

Thanks dude! You definitely won't regret stropping them up each time. It's so worth it.

Great video - stropping really does work well ! One small question, though.. Which way up is that leather on your strop, please - Flesh side down or flesh side up?

Hey, Ian thanks for watching! Sorry I should have mentioned that. It's grain side up. Flesh side down.

Great video man! And a skill that transfers any and everything that has a blade, including kitchen knives and woodworking chisels! I for one really want to see you glue a piece of leather onto a 2x4!!!

What kind of glue do you use to glue the leather to the wood?

I just used the same contact cement I use in my leather work. Just do the same thing you would with leather: glue both pieces, let it dry for a few minutes then stick it together.
