Straight from Racing Reference… 2009: Steven ahead of Brendan in points (7th to 9th), more Top 10 finishes (9-8). 2010: Steven ahead of Brendan (10th to 11th), and more top 10’s again (13-9) Also, Steven finished in the top 10 in points 3 times. There was talent, the problem was it couldn’t be fully corralled, be it because Rusty’s equipment wasn’t top notch with Cup backing, or all those Buschwhackers coming in to take half the grid up, and Steven felt he needed to do more than the equipment could handle.

I honestly think Steven had talent, he would be running pretty well sometimes (consideringthe his team was midpack) only to make a boneheaded or over aggresive move and crash, had he learned to race cleanly and more patiently he may have had better results He was also incredibly young, he left the sport when he was what 23 years old? It would’ve been interesting to see if MAYBE he could develop into a decent Truck/Xfinity driver
@Austin_Windric
@Austin_Windric 3 жыл бұрын
Townley had talent, too. Impressive saves and even outperforming his given equipment. He also won a race, albeit with fuel-milage. However, it does take talent to get a fuel-milage win, albeit not much. He was also a criminally underrated Superspeedway racer, having ARCA wins at those tracks and had great Truck Series runs at those tracks. I can't wait until I get bashed for typing this.

Agreed. Steven had talent, he just came up in an era that was especially brutal to young drivers in the Busch/Nationwide series. He was a bit wreckless, but I also do wonder what happens if Buschwhacking wasn’t a thing. Maybe he doesn’t have a godly Cup career like his dad, but he’d probably have the Todd Bodine or Kenny Wallace kind of career, where he might see some years in Cup, but has a solid career in lower series.

@TheLocalLt
@TheLocalLt 2 жыл бұрын
Spencer was far from a title contender but he never drove for “two of the best teams in NASCAR”. He drove for Junior Johnson right as they started their decline, Travis Carter who was a great crew chief but a mediocre team owner, I’ll give you that year at Ganassi where Sterling had a great year while the highlight of Spencer’s year was his feud with Kurt Busch, but after he got fired from there he only drove for Jimmy Smith and then did a little Truck series before retiring. So he really only had one season (2002) in top notch equipment in his Cup career.

Steve Wallace reminds me of Brendan Fraser when he played as the brainless basketball player in Bedazzled. I'm also quite surprised Rusty hasn't disowned his son from all the repair costs and the other money Steve wasted from his dad.

At first, I thought he wasn't a bust. Because he had 34 top 10s in 194 starts and finished top 10 in the points 3 seasons in a row. But then found out that he had more crashes than top 10s.

Man, this woke up memories I really tried to forget lmao. I really don't know what makes me more uncomfortable, DW Calling Michael's race, or Rusty calling Steven's races. It's like a train wreck, it just keeps going and you can't look away.

Rusty Wallace was terrible at not being bias. He would react like they were stupid when that happens all the time. He would also act like he didn't do anything wrong for making extremely stupid mistakes

I do not like Jeff Burton at all in the booth, but he does a good job of being unbiased about Harrison

@@handsomedevil4928 yeah. Only thing he has really done to be bias is celebrate Harrison winning at Texas but that was his first time winning with Jeff in the booth and he made a crazy last corner pass

totally agree that a year or two in arca woulda done wonders for him.....that burnout he did at i think kentucky was the best ive ever seen. but he wasnt ready for BGN, his equipment and team was better than he was at that point. He always came across as a guy who was trying too hard...and if he'd had a couple years with bad equipment where he just had to worry about finishing...and not worry about his finishing position i think the kid woulda turned out pretty good. i mean seemed like he finished 8-12th every time he finished...just didnt finish a lot......he caused a lot of wrecks...but got caught in a lot of wrecks not of his making too. ....on a side note...Rusty Wallace Racing had Jimmy Johns, and 5hr Energy as sponsors at different times....and lost em to cup teams...which has gotta hurt
