If this thing is like a Bravo model Seahawk then its very loud and uncomfortable. Cranials hurt after a while lol and rubbing your ears for relief is loud af if you dont have foamies in...I have flown in Sierra models of Seahawk and they are alot more tolerable. 47 and 53 werent bad to fly in I didnt think...

How my guys preferred to fly Med, slick with only 3 seats in the cabin two for the crew cheifs and the Medic's back left right up against the LH cabin door. Gave you the most of the cabin floor for patients and the Medics would have the aft bulkhead to hang basically a dresser full of all of their kit with backboards hung on the ceiling, quick and easy load and unloading with full access to all sides of the patients unlike with the internally mounted center carousel or other system which pulled out the two crew chief seats was way harder to load not mention the weight from those systems. Really the only additional weight and cabin space we'd be willing to sacrifice is if we'd need to mount Robbie tanks in which case the Medics seat move up in between the two crew chiefs.

I was around these birds for eight years and not a day goes by that I miss that sound of those GE701's especially when they make that cool Blackhawk noise as the No. 1 engine starts up and the M/R blades start turning...…. And man do I miss flying with them doing NOE flights, skimming lakes, and scaring convoys/ patrols off the roads because we were so low that the only thing above the tree tops was the M&T/Rs . And also just putting it out there, people think Med pilots are simple bus drivers like them A-bat boys? Oh no, I swear some of my pilots weren't right in the head but man could they fly and stay inside that "Golden hour". -C 2-211th Medevac Though one nice thing is my house is right by my local airport and as such I still get to hear and see them when they're flying approaches or just bombing around the area.

Nice Clear Video. I was a Black Hawk crew chief and TI back in the late 80's early 90,s. I loved that bird! A comment below was asking about the UH-60 tendency to tilt left on lift off. The reason is the main transmission module is placed just to the left of center of gravity for the air frame. Thus it is slightly lighter on the right side and it lifts off first
@SuperBlackhawkdriver9 жыл бұрын
Actually boss, it hangs left wheel low due to translating tendency which is caused by the tail rotor.
@worlds_okayest_pilot9 жыл бұрын
SuperBlackhawkdriver Not to be a douche, but Paul Humphrey is probably right. Translation tenancy does exist in rotary wing flight, however it causes more of a lateral "drift" than a "roll". The tail rotor isn't angled nearly enough to cause that much roll. Also, the tail rotor deflects air to the left side of the aircraft to counteract the clockwise yawing tenancy of the fuselage. So even if the tail rotor could cause significant rolling/banking movement, it would cause a right hand roll instead of the left hand roll you see here. Translating tendency is defined by the textbooks as: "The tendency for a single rotor helicopter to drift laterally, due to tail rotor thrust." Note that it doesn't say "roll" to the left. Just a friendly correction :)
@brian1983lucas9 жыл бұрын
Andre Morgan Let me correct a friendly correction that is incorrect... By the looks of your profile, you work with CH-47s, which do not have to worry about translating tendency due to their counter-rotating rotor system. UH-60s, on the other hand, do have to compensate for translating tendency. Luckily for us pilots, the BlackHawk's flight control system gives us a little help, through the Mechanical Mixing Unit (MMU), so that we don't have to work as hard up in the cockpit. "Collective to Roll" and "Collective to Yaw" compensation are a couple of the MMU functions. As we increase the collective, those GE-701 engines start creating a whole lot of torque to keep our main rotor at 100%. Normally, to compensate for that torque, a pilot would add some left pedal to keep the aircraft from spinning in the opposite direction of the rotor system, which in the case of a BlackHawk would be to the right (since our blades rotate counter-clockwise). The MMU automatically increases the pitch in the tail rotor blades (left pedal) to counter-act the increase in torque; that is the "Collective to Yaw" function. Now, since the UH-60 has a pretty beefy, puller type tail rotor (it actually contributes 2.5% of our total lift due to the 20 degree cant... which might not sound like a lot, but it is significant), that increase in pitch would cause the BlackHawk to "roll" or "drift" to the right. The MMU comes to the rescue again and automatically adjusts the pitch of the main rotor blades and causes the rotor disk to have a left "tilt" to keep the aircraft from drifting right; that's the "Collective to Roll" function. Because the rotor disk is now slightly tilted to the left, the centrifugal force pulling down on the left side of the rotor system causes the BlackHawk to hang left wheel low. The other comment about the transmission being slightly off-center is also incorrect... :-)

MMU compensation for translating tendancy of the tail rotor. The tail rotor will push the aircraft to the right so the left tilt counteracts the would be right sliding motion.

I too think jonjonlambo is insane...these Army guys were obviously at a show and had he had catastrophic failure he'd have slammed in to grass and probably killed no one and the blades would have slammed downward. A high performance take-off is something you do to get your PPL so his machine is faster and more powerful as it was designed to be. GREAT VIDEO STUTZADA and THANK YOU for not putting a stupid music soundtrack over those turbines!! Awesome vid!

Years ago while in college, one of my classmates, who was in the ANG, arranged for a "visit" by the Chinook he was assigned to. When they were preparing to leave, the pilot pulled into a hover about 5 feet off the ground and then yanked up on the collective, made the blackhawk in this video look slow and cumbersome. He was up to several hundred feet AGL within seconds.
