I'm Angolan, native born and raised. I will appreciate if you write her full name as Njinga Mbandi not "bande". Thanks

This was very informative. I never knew there was really a woman king but now I do. Please continue to put out more information about the African history. I would greatly appreciated.

It s so wrong to call it Angola... when she was ruling The Kingdom of Kongo...you can not erase our story like that ...improve your research

He also ignores the fact she was a prolific slave trader who partnered with the Portuguese. I understand why Angolans would revere her.

No she was not, she was at odds with them, the Kingdom of the Kongo and the Kingdom of Ndongo (which later became part of the larger region known as Angola) were distinct political entities in Central Africa, but their histories were interconnected. The Kingdom of Kongo, located in what is now northern Angola, the western part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and southern Gabon, was established in the 14th century. It was a powerful and centralized state with a sophisticated political system. The kingdom had strong trade relations with European powers, especially Portugal, during the Age of Exploration. On the other hand, the Kingdom of Ndongo was situated to the south of Kongo, in the region that is now northern Angola. Ndongo was founded in the 16th century, emerging as an independent state after breaking away from the Kingdom of Kongo. Ndongo had its own political and cultural characteristics. Over time, there were interactions and conflicts between the Kingdom of Kongo and the Kingdom of Ndongo. Both kingdoms were impacted by the Atlantic slave trade, which led to the displacement of populations and significant social and economic changes in the region. Portuguese influence and trade activities also played a role in shaping the histories of both kingdoms. In the 17th century, the Kingdom of Ndongo became embroiled in conflicts with the Portuguese, and the Portuguese ultimately established control over the region. The territory that was once Ndongo became a part of the larger Portuguese colonial administration known as Angola. The historical boundaries and dynamics of these kingdoms were complex, and the region underwent significant transformations due to European colonization and the slave trade.

She had a harem of men like a lot of Kings and Emperors had harem of women before Christianity said you had to have one wife. Japan and China had a harem. The Muslim Ottoman Empire had a harem. Roman men had slave prostitutes before the Catholic Church took over. So that is a complicated issue.

Not all Black women have kids with multiple men. Married Monogamous black women and single childless black women are just not portrayed in media as nonmarried. Because there is a larger entertainment market for negative stereotypes of black people than a market for average everyday black people.
