For those paying attention, there have been hints all along the way that might make someone believe that is the case. I believe it is called foreshadowing. It doesn't make it so, but it certainly gives rise to such a theory. What has the seven season plus told you about who Raymond Reddington is? Nothing? Something? Please share.

@@vargviper7192 I believe the entire storyline trying to portray that love is not limited to blood relation and does not require logical/ rational backing This theme was set since the pilot episode (when Red told Liz to stop thinking like the FBI and think more "like a criminal" , which meant decisions fuelled up by emotions, instead of following standard logic and reasoning Bonding was showcased throughout the series to be not limited to traditional blood relations ( ex. Kaplan, who was no way related to Liz, cared for her like her own child) , even the Liz and Red relationship (ex. Liz cared for Red and couldn't bring herself to pull the trigger even when she believed Red to be responsible for killing her mother. She cared for him just as she did when she thought Red to be her father in the earlier seasons, and when she thought him to be just a criminal even in earlier ones) Tom Keen was the same where he came into her life as a job, but did everything he could to save her when her life depended on it. Harold and Red's relation are the same which transcends their FBI agreement, which we have seen many times throughout the series My take from the series is trying to showcase that love has no logical or rational boundaries such as mother-daughter/ father-daughter. It can come from anywhere As for the identity of Red, I believe it could very well turn out to be anticlimactic for people hoping for a logical/ rational answer or closure. I believe he could just might be a handler for Katarina who took on the identity of Red to follow out Katarina or "her colleague/friend" directions (similar to the other fake red/ faux red/ Fred who appeared previously on behalf of this Red) but also cared deeply about Liz. He can be anyone who is not really connected to Liz in the most logical sense. Even going by logic, in the seaside episode after Liz's supposed death, we can see the flashback where Red was talking to Katarina, talking her out of committing suicide and taking on the armed agents together. We have seen many creative visualisations throughout the series, but never one where the character is speaking to another as a third person, even if you consider them to be separate personas I believe the director commented something along the similar lines that the journey of the character was more important than the secrets and the identity. Guess we will have find out in the series finale next week

People are assuming that because there's tons of clues that could mean that that is the outcome. There's also clues that it could be a different outcome but it doesn't change the fact that there was plenty of evidence that if they did choose to go in that direction it would make sense

Of course, I suppose it might make for a good series of its own but in the case of Townsend, it seems he medicated himself more than he pursued his revenge up until now any way and watching an over-medicated zombie isn't all that interesting to me. Had he been all that active in the search of his families killers, he would like already be dead. Emotionally fueled action rather than rationally fueled action usually ends in bad outcomes and Townsend isn't a cat. So, it would end quickly for him.

@@yashbhat6099 Absolutely, just not certain that is a deep seated characteristic of this character. Loyalty seems to be Red's big trigger. Even after Townsend caused Liz to be shot, Red's actions were more designed to minimize the risk or neutralize it. Even the supposed torching of Townsend seemed more in that vein than avenging Liz being shot.

I dont expect big happy reunion in s8, more like Liz Cuba / Samara plane exit. But i agree with not killing Liz, she can change her mind or be willing to come for season 9 finale.

I don't think that the series was designed to placate a community. It is likely that community would not find it to be an endorsement of what they claim to be as the reasons for Katarina becoming Red have nothing to do with the struggle they claim. As far as being a lazy ending, that would be pulling a brother or some other random unknown and never before mentioned character out of the hat or the rabbit hole.

And that facial expressions of young katernia states that she had to make such sacrifices to be able to protect her and be next to her....all the dialogues to Townsend even suggests and the actions when she got shot all suggests the actions of a mother...care forcthe child not the power he holds. And all reddingtons experience suggest katernia's experience of spy work... Even the fake mother's dialgoues... Before she was shot suggests that... Even Townsends adamant reasoning to kill her before reddingtons suggests he also knows that killing her child in front of her eyes is the only thing that will make Katerina know the pain he felt. Maybe it's wrong... But we will not know until the revelation.
