Awesome! Looks like Super 16. Seems to be a little unstable but perfectly stabilized. This confirms my being reluctant to Ultra 16 conversions for cameras that don't have a rock steady image since we are stuck between sprocket holes. Super 16 has enough headroom/leeway when cropped to 1.78:1 or 1.85:1 to allow for stabilization and even a little vertical reframing. Just my usual ramblings. Excellent! Dont forget to assign and embed timecode at punch...HR 1:00, HR 2:00 and so forth. This makes it possible to revisit footage in case you want to conform to higher resolution and just scan footage you want! But yeah...seems like that will be for another episode. 👊❤🎞

Amazing piece of gear, i hope they build a wet gate option, for realy damage film there is plenty of old 16 mm or 35 mm that need to be archived, some place have probably editing table that can scan, but not with HDR quality that this machine does, some company can scan very large format but it's expensive and they expert at this for some hollywood movie.

I am trying to build my own, but there is no material on the Internet. Every commercial scanner seems to use something along the lines of an integrating sphere. How would you rate the scanner for 16mm? People hate on it for not giving us a full HD scan for 16, but how does it look in real world usage, especially considering how good resolves superscale can be?

Hi, great video! In the user manual BM stresses out that this is not a telecine machine, but rather a scanner. On another hand, they claim it is full-speed 24-fps scanner, so from a user's point of view effectively a telecine? I saw a comment below from another owner who said that the frame rate drops on his machine, supposedly because of slow HDD/SSD. I guess, if it were a true telecine, the frame rate would not drop? By reading the user manual it is not clear whether it saves each frame in an individual file, or whether it creates a video in proprietary format. Reading the manual, it seems that sound is not being recorded live, but rather is stored as part of the frame, and then you need to extract sound from the clips, and at this point it would convert optical track into sound. So, at this point, the whole reel is already merged in a single video clip, or each frames are still sit around individually?

Would you have full resolution short samples of film scanned straight from this scanner to download ?

I’m assuming this is for scanning negs? You still have to have the film processed externally right?

Can it scan a super35m scan from a arri 235, lt, or 535? Also, how’s the quality of the scan? Also, can it scan for 4K?

Hi! I've been working with a Cintel II Scanner for the past years and have done hundereds of documentaries, shorts, newsreel, trailers and almost two handfull of feature films. If you want any advice on how to get the most out of it or have discovered something yourself then feel free to get in touch with me. Please use proper gloves though. ;) One thing I noticed when working with color film is that you get quite noticeable noise levels in chroma due to the bayerfilter. This is especially noticeable in whites when scanning negatives. Setting chroma NR to 20-25 in the DaVinci Color Tab (before applying any grade) pretty much eliminates that while still keeping all of the grain intact.

is there any difference in digitally scanned negative footage vs traditional positive prints?

I have to agree with a number of the comments here: For years Blackmagic Design left a lot to be desired with their Cintel unit and there are a number of red flags in regards to that. First the lack of technical information (they finally provided a link for a manual just last year) on the Cintel product. Second the lack of customer service and response to customer inquiries. Blackmagic acquired Cintel around 2014 and pretty much treated the product line like it's red headed stepchild for far too long. It may have improved by now, I don't know, but whenever I see a company pay little attention to it's paying customers in regards to a particular product, I walk away and don't look back. You hear that Lucasfilm???

How much digital resolution you can get from 16 mm film? I heard that we can get 4K resolution from 35 mm film?

Have you added the 8mm gate? If so could you give a review on it?

Hello. We have also purchased a Cintel Scanner. We mostly digitize 16 mm films, but we also see a lot of 35 mm. We have experienced a problem with this. 2-3 minutes after starting the scanning process it drops down to 8 fps. Can you help me with what the problem might be? We are working on an Imac '19 i5 radeon pro 580 x 8gb 16 gb 2667 mhz DDR4. Keep up the good work and best regards!
