I'm using a Pentax/Cosmicar 8.5mm 12.5mm and 25mm (double for Super35mm equivalent so 24, 32, 50mm).

This is the best footage I've seen from this camera on YT. Those lenses are absolutely incredible and the colour grading here is perfect. Are you offering the LUT that you mentioned here in the comments?

I still love the image this camera can produce. One of my favourites I was working with.

just fantastic work. I just picked up the bmpcc og and have been researching lenses. You made these lenses dance. Thank you. Such a creative eye!

Glad I found your work. I'm considering using the s16 crop mode on my Canon C70. It has a s35 sensor. Do you think the Cosmicar would cover the frame? Thanks!! Can't wait to see more from your channel.

That would be an interesting combo for sure. I see that there are adapters that are RF-Cmount so I guess the flange is shallow enough then? I had to physically shave down some of my lenses to get infinity on my Micro Cinema Camera. I suggest you buy the adapter and the cheapest Cosmicar you can find then go from there. The 16mm and 25mm are $30-$40 and are great starter lenses.

@IanMorrisVideo Hi Ian Love your style! Been experimenting with c-mount lenses for a while on my Fuji system (with strong vignetting of course - but it works). Just bought the Micro Cinema Camera to use as a digital 16mm camera. Now i'm facing the flange distance issue. The infos online are not very consistent, so i want to ask you directly since you've proven to make it work: Do i understand it right that i have to REDUCE distance beteween sensor and lens? Is that what you mean by "shaving down"? As far as i understand i have to reduce the flange distance about 2mm? Hard to achieve considering the small 3/4 mount but of course possible somehow. Thanks in advance ✌ Tim

Wow that was a really good video, got immersed and forgot I was watching specifically to look at micro footage. What did you use to record audio, and was this handheld? Looks pretty steady if it was

that was a really nice comment thanks :) Just the internal mic and yes handheld pressed against my gut most of the time.

is this the cosmicar/pentax 8.5mm f/1.5? can you send me a link of the lens or specify me the model? thanks

This is pretty close to the film look, how much post processing did you do to get this look?

The initial LUT took me probably 2-3 hours to make for it. I just apply the same one to all my Micro camera work with fine adjustments like exposure and contrast depending if I was under or over exposed on a shot. Then I just add film grain from Film Convert and that's it. So in summary, for this I shot for 2 hours, got home, marked ins and outs in Premiere of the shots I liked and stretched the clips in a 4K sequence, threw my LUT on an adjustment layer, made micro adjustments to each clip if needed then threw on another adjustment layer for grain, export in ProRes 422 to preserve the grain without artifacts. Done.

@@IanMorrisVideo interesting! I’ve never considered the micro camera but it looks like it could be fun, does it shoot B-Raw?
@IanMorrisVideo2 жыл бұрын
@@AlpsLifee it shoots Cinema DNG. Close enough. I just shoot ProRes personally.

These c mount lenses often have homonyms. Please consider showing them, as there are several types with different coverage, covered by the description.

I'll make a "rig" video eventually. For now, here's a good list of what will work on the micro sensor size. I have photos of my micro setup on instagram. @imvideo web.archive.org/web/20160115194316/guerrillafilmmaking.tv/c-mount-lens-database

Would you consider uploading or selling the BMMCC lut you made?

I have a question: Is the image still cropped 2x because of the MFT mount? (So 8.5mm will get 17mm.) Or, although there is an MFT mount, is it so the image doesn't get cropped because of the 16mm sensor size (which is the same as the c-mount size)?
@IanMorrisVideo Жыл бұрын
Yes, the M43 mount on a Super 16mm sensor will give you the same coverage but not the same flange distance which is why you have to mod some of them to achieve infinity focus. The Cosmicar 25mm f1.4 needs no modification but the 12.5mm, 16mm and most wide lenses will. Like you said the focal length is doube so the 25mm 1.4 is technically a 50mm 2.8.

Where are you buying these cosmicar lenses?

All over the place. Follow the C-Mount on Digital group on Facebook. I got a bunch from a German reseller, some from an optics store in Markham, Ontario and a few on eBay. This site has a few "confirmed" lenses that cover 16mm if you're curious whether a lens you find online works or not. web.archive.org/web/20160115194316/guerrillafilmmaking.tv/c-mount-lens-database
