My daughter and I went to the Caveney show and were lucky enough to be in the front row (my daughter had also been selected to assist Kevin James with the floating rose). We were spoilt, but it was one of the great shows of any convention I’ve been to - really sorry that the sound/site lines were bad for you at the back. (Ps I think we were at the opposite shows to you).

pleased to report I didn't notice any sound issues on the second performance of Mike Caveny & Friends, and such a joy to finally see the lovely Tina Lenert do her Mr Mop routine after first seeing it on The Best of Magic on ITV many moons ago.

Magicians can be terrible audiences. If they see the method sometimes they can't or won't appreciate a good performance of it.

You're my favourite rambler. I probably will never attend Blackpool. I'm in Canada and it's just a bit too expensive. What always strikes me when I watch reports of these magic conventions is the dearth of women. What is it? Are magicians too obnoxious to appeal to women? Too much of an "old boys" club? The absence of women makes me wonder if I would actually enjoy going to any magic convention. Am I delusional? Care to comment?

Men and women are just wired differently some things they love we find boring and things we love they find boring if they were excluded that might say something but they are not it's just different strokes for different folks. But it is nice to see more are finding their way to magic compared to the old days.

@@muppetonmeds No sorry, as a women who loves magic i can honestly say there's very misogynist and creepy overtones in most magicians club. Robjacks is right, "the old boys club" still runs things and their attitudes are less than welcoming, and thats being nice about it

Yep, there still are a lot of dated attitudes in magic. It's getting better but has a way to go. Social conditioning adds to it too. I remember quite clearly being in Blackpool and there being a basket weaving session for the wives. That was a while ago, but not ancient history. So we need to keep moving forward with it.

Gala was.hit and miss throughout. The illusionists that were battling shouldnwatch Bottom. Take a leaf out-of-the-way. Kevin Hart, he was lazy, took his act for granted and went through the motions. And his comparing was borrrrring. That's all I can remember....and that should say something
