Not happy with that horrible fat kid in the On The Beach advert before the main feature, but anyway. All the news channels and newspaper websites all showed the amateur footage from social media and took it all as fact. It gave us who live here and love the place feelings of dread to think our greatest landmark was burning. Thank goodness it was wrong, but sorry, it was sloppy journalism by all concerned. This is why I only trust YOU, Stephen, to bring us the facts about Blackpool. More power to your elbow....and all your other parts as well....😂😂😙❤👍

Exactly. I saw it on Sky News before anywhere else. Then when I checked, pretty much every local news paper (Gazette, Lancs Live etc) were reporting it as fact and 'there was chaos and pandemonium'. Hell, even TalkTV, and I quote their reporter directly 'Theres flames pouring out the windows, and we've got reports of multiple injuries'.

Agreed with the 'safe' remark, but the 'warm'? It is windswept, miserable, wet and nearly freezing here in 'sunny' Blackpool. Oh well, we should be used to it, but.......

Lack of smoke was the real clue, bring back the British Rail fire safety course, they will explain what a fire is in detail, plus metal cannot burn.

There are fires that start with a bit of fire and then there's a terrific fire within seconds so best to get everything there so you don't waste time for backup to come. Anyway a good way to see if the pre-arranged plan for evacuation etc they must have works.

I think because the tower is so memorable and iconic I was feeling tense and hoping people were fine if there was ever a fire so in a way I feel extremely happy but it was some sort of hoax. I first saw it on yt the independent so automatically presumed it was true😂

There was no smoke......... How could the tower be on fire??? The funny thing is...... Everybody was reporting the tower was on fire and everyone believed it........... But again....... It was a clear day with blue sky's and no smoke coming off the tower 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

It looked like special effects fire as if maybe they were filming a scene up there. It was all the sirens that convinced people it was a real fire 🔥

If something like this happened in the US the jokes would be flying from comedians 😂 .Glad it was a false alarm but can't help feel like somebody was being irresponsible with information. Imagine the unnecessary anxiety and stress it caused

It was an orange coloured sheet that was put up there. The wind was meant to make it out it was a fire. 😂

The people on the prom at the front were probably from the Michael Jordan High Jinx Magic Show in the Circus Arena.I follow him on FB and he posted the performance had just started when the arena was evacuated and cancelled.

I would rather have a false alarm be it Orange plastic with a bit of sun reflecting making it look like a fire, than having a fire with no one taking any notice of it. Only criticism is that as quick as people had said it was a fire, they should have just been as quick to say false alarm the Gazzette should have been more responsible.

Netting is usually green. Could the netting be placed there to prevent birds nesting and it may be orange to blend in with the tower better?

I actually did not see anything going on, certainly no fire. I hope no was affected by this, as all resources were diverted to the Tower. At least you have sun; I haven't seen the sun all week, and today was horribly foggy! You would have thought you were in the UK 🇬🇧 and not in upstate New York!

@@hazelmanship7516 Good evening Hazel it's been dry but very cold here all day the windscreen on my neighbour's car is freezing up I'm not a fan of New Year i don't stay up for the bells as i lost my mum in December although it was 25 years ago this year i hope you and your family have a good New Year and that they get over the virus hopefully we'll speak soon

The worst thing about all this carry on was .with people gathering and rushing to move out of the way someone could have been hurt ! A blind man could have seen it wasnt a fire …..plus i dont think steel structures actually do set on fire !
