There's plenty of British people who are proficient with firearms. We just don't all have them in our homes or walk/drive around with them in our day to day lives. But I guess we have never been subjugated using firearms (we were typically the ones doing the subjugation) 😂 There isn't a culture of wanting to have firearms and little in the way of recreational shooting outside clay pigeon shooting/hunting and that is a fairly rare hobby in the UK.

I'd have to agree with Ian on this. Even if you remove fuel supplies from the equation you'd still lose against dragons. The US, even with its vast arsenal couldn't compete for long with an enemy that needs little sleep and can launch an attack from anywhere. Imagine you're an airforce pilot who has to guard against a dragon attack near California. Dragons in the movie were moving faster than helicopters so you could hazard a guess that they move as fast as jets, maybe slower. You'd have to be running air defense 24/7 over a wide swath of land and sea to keep high value civilian centers free of attack. If you factor in sleep deprivation for pilots, drain on stockpiles, and possible lost planes you face a war of attrition that could last a decade or longer. The US at full production of planes and ammo to match couldn't keep up with a demand of that scale for more than 3 years at best. Most munitions on a F-16 jet run about a couple million dollars per plane depending on how much you're using everyday. If you have a world that's being attacked on every continent it wouldn't matter if you had unlimited money and fuel. You'd run out raw materials faster than you would the fuel or money. Also, you'd have a hard time keeping people in factories to manufacture the parts, planes, and ammo if dragons were zipping through the skies. The core issue is that with an enemy that can breed faster than you can kill it how do you win. A creature like that would require very little food or water to sustain itself while you require 3 meals a day to keep healthy. Its probably why in the movie the world powers used nukes as a solution to wipe out the dragons. Honestly, it would probably come as the most logical solution to their problem. I doubt any country, faced with that same dilemma, would chose any other mode of defense.

@@Sensukit all you have to do is prioritize locations and set up anti aircraft weapons, and study more about them, and instead of using nukes, create a virus that will kill them.

@@joseavila2443, The dragons were awaken to millions in the underground and therefore their attacks are unpredictably. This is why not only the collapse of the trade and supply routes would be a problem, but also the panic of the people. Cities are not self-sufficient, which would force people to leave them soon, but there would still be famines worldwide. So you would have chaos and refugee flows everywhere, which would be uncontrollable. And what do you think would happen if it becomes known that there are "security zones" or "prioritized locations" while the rest of humanity seems to be sacrificed?

I thought that, too. It must have been an American publication whilst the Dragons were slaying Europe...they hadn't made it across the Atlantic yet. Only explanation I can think of.
