I admire the financial independence of people, But you can live better if you work a little more. After watching this I think there are people out there, on the extreme, who plan to die early just to be able to retire early. To each their own but to me retirement isn't just about not having to work, it's about having the freedom to do whatever you might reasonably want, such as travel, buying things, enjoying life, etc. I don't think I could retire with less than $3m in income-generating investments, maybe $2m at the very minimum. I plan to work until I'm at least 45

I once saw a video in which a very wealthy person was asked what was needed to live like a billionaire. He replied that if you wanted a billionaire's lifestyle, you only need $50 million. Because, that so much money that at that level there are not a lot of things you can't buy. So, when hear someone say, someone has "only a billion dollars" that seems a bit funny to me, because it's still a lot of money.

Again just my opinion but there are people who actually believe stuff like "The Rothschild family runs the world" "The Rothchilds ARE the Fed and Central Bank" "All American dollars are actually borrowed from the Rothchild's" Meanwhile America owes China untold Dollars and Gold Bullion...so it can't be both. Thanks, I didn't even know Black Rock was a thing. btw, I feel I need to add, the appalling risk management of Banks during the last global financial crisis, in favor of ever increasing profits, varied greatly, depending on which regions of the world you were talking about. For example, New Zealand (and to a slightly lesser extent Australian) Banks are subject to much stricter government regulation, with regards to their LVR (Loan to Value Ratio) and many other aspects related to their financial health. As such, those Banks (and the econmies they served) were able to weather the storm a lot better. Lastly, something I am curious about, and perhaps an idea for a future video by you, is the state of the large Chinese Banks. If you google a list of the largest banks in the world (by assets) that list is dominated by Chinese and Asian Banks. Based on that list alone, it appears China is already the new global financial super power, but I'd be interested in a more heavily researched and informed opinion -by someone like you for example :)

The U.S. has roughly 140 million housing units. Of those 140 million units, about 80 million are stand-alone single-family homes. Of those 80 million, about 15 million are rental properties. Of those 15 million single-family rentals, institutional investors own about 300,000; most of the rest are owned by individual landlords. Of that 300,000, BlackRock (largely through its investment in the real-estate rental company Invitation Homes) owns about 80,000. Its not a large number in the grand scheme of things.

@@godfather7339 Probably quite low, but I can't find a reference for those figures. Most investment groups are buying cheap housing that needs repairs, doing the work, and selling it on at a profit (or renting, I guess). They aren't really competing in the same markets as normal home buyers who want to buy a place and just move in. Granted, the above isn't true all the time. I think recently an investment firm bought an entirely newly built town or something. So while what the original commenter said might not actually be a problem right now, there's a good chance that this is a road investment groups continue to go down, ruining everything for everyone like they tend to do

You're actually just repeating a myth. Only .5% of American homes are owned by institutional investors like BlackRock. Also BlackRock doesn't own anything directly. They're mostly managing funds for pension funds that want exposure to residential housing market

The worth of a person is not just how much they accumulate but how they help others. So Larry was the true winner, not Stephen. Another winner was the Midwest Greek-Am Peter George Peterson (June 5, 1926 - March 20, 2018) an American investment banker who served as United States Secretary of Commerce from February 29, 1972, to February 1, 1973, under the Richard Nixon administration. Was a founder of this firm and has a think-tank named after him in Washington DC.

Larry is an ASSET MGR. Steven is a Private Equity Boss. A 10T Asset Mgr is as powerful as a 0.65T PE firm. Blackrock is just ETFs. BlackStone is a way more sophisticated vehicle. I'd say the 2 firms are just as powerful so Steven would have come out on top with 33x more wealth except he doesn't do anything with the wealth seperate to BlackStone. Both are on the same level but I'd edge Steven fwd due to his potential to do something more.

Investing in index's is not diversification index are traded by many large organisations and the public. Diversification were be more like owning private equity in these businesses and physical assets along with commodities and cash. But Blackrock is so big it is a market maker so if it predicts something will go up and buy the share volume of there purchases drive up the price. It's a little like how the FED works except the FED has unlimited cash and it places that capital into Blackrock to manage. The funny money is buying everything and consumers will own nothing.
