On the Sirdar free leaflet, it actually suggests both casting on and off with an oddment of DK yarn, not the pom-pom yarn. For sewing in it says use the thin section, so I guess you'd have to make sure you had the full length of that to work with to get a secure finish.

On each video I’ve seen using this type of yarn, none have shown how to sow in the ends or change balls half way through a row. I’ve just fudged it in the past, but would have been nice to see what the experts recommend you do!

How do you do the first stitch when you are casting off to get the first pom pom round the bend ?

Casting off/ ALTERNATIVE STRATEGY Knit the final row to the end of the yarn, as required - Using YOUR smaller sized circular knitting needle. Go to the ‘COMMENCING END’ of your final row (there is no trailing yarn here) and attach 2x combined lengths of Sirdar Snuggly 4ply white yarn - tightly knotting the ends together, around your first post of knitting. Please leave 2” tail to weave in on completion. Crochet 5 chains, then slip stitch the two ‘in between’ knit-stitches’ ~repeat > to the other end (a starting row post) where your wool/circular-needle left-is waiting). The smaller circular needle make it very easy to insert your size 4 crochet hook. Knot-off the white Sirdar Snuggly, weave the ends in. This results in a very springy, particularly attractive and neat finished edge. Looks like a binding/ but I really should have photographed it. Potentially you could add this crochet border to your blankets first row, but I didn’t as I was sick of the sight of the repeated mess I’d made of my lovely work by TRYING to follow these instructions.

Nice video but thought it a bit confusing that you didn’t mention casting off was not done in the same yarn, but with what looked like a plain cotton yarn. I have done these blankets and have managed to cast off with the same Pompom yarn just by knitting one stitch to each Pompom or alternating between two & one stitch between the pom-poms to make it less baggy.

Very interesting and helpful……up to a point! AT 3:19, at no point do you explain that you have changed the yarn !?!? Confusing to a beginner who is trying to learn from you .

I noticed that when you demostrate the cast off, you are using a ball of ordinary yarn, 4py? matching the colour of the blanket. Is it not possible to cast off using the Pom Pom yarn?
