Thanks for this. Brought back memories. I’m a Londoner born and bred, and many years ago I nearly settled in Littleborough, but the boyfriend and I split up. It’s a great part of the world, and going over the border to the tops of West Yorkshire, the Calder valley, and also up to Cumbria are all beautiful places to find a bit of sanity. I’m 65 now and disabled, but my dog and I - now sadly gone - had some great times. One woman and her dog. To this day, my hiking boots are still, and probably always will be, the shoes that most feel like ‘me’!

Hello Chanel. Small world🙂! My wife is from Littleborough and when I was younger, I used to drink in the pubs there every Friday night. There is some lovely countryside hereabouts and you are right, it is also handy for Calderdale, etc....another area I like. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. Best wishes, Chris

great stuff Chris & love haw you know the area so well with the history & everything that goes with it.been casting my eye over that area for quite a while now as it seems to me it may be a bit quieter at the minute than the popular parts of the peak district.looks a great spot you had there it has that remote look to it despite the m62 noise lol..my heart was in my mouth when you dropped that neolithic blade, what a nice piece that is i'd love to find something like that.holding that id be thinking back to who actually made it & what they used it for it truly fascinates me that type of thing brilliant.tfs mate.Andy.

Aye, I'm a right clumsy sod. Just imagine, survived for thousands of years then a muppet like me comes along and smashes it! That's what does it for me though too Andy, just thinking that the last bloke before me to hold it did so about 3000 years ago. Absolutely bonkers. Like I said in the film, I was hoping to get to Kinder really, on the northern edge but I just wasn't too happy with what the forecast was saying. Maybe on the next one, though got my eyes on the Dales too. If you are looking for quiet, Dog Hill is quieter than Blackstone Edge. Thanks for watching pal. ATB, Chris

Hi Chris, I did the Blackstone Edge wild camp yesterday. I camped at the first spot you were considering, just randomly came across it.The weather was dry, but it did get cold during the night. I am thinking off doing your wild camps around this area. Close to me as I am from Manchester. I enjoy your style of vide making, keep it up!

Good on you Ikram. It's a great spot. Manchester is a good location for wild campers with easy access to the Pennines, Peak District, etc. Best wishes, Chris

I've done Blackstone Edge a few times, I catch the train to Marsden and walk up to Hebden Bridge and catch the train home, very interesting place, you probably know more than me about the place but find interesting they had big Chartists meetings up there so the Yorkshire and Lancashire groups could meet. Important place for us working class oiks 🙂 thanks for sharing. Cheers
@ChrisJB3 жыл бұрын
How do David. Yes, both HB and Marsden are excellent walking centres, good pubs too. I know a little bit of local Chartist activity, with big gatherings both on Blackstone Edge and the Basin Stone above Walsden. Thanks for watching and commenting. ATB, Chris

Keeping it local on this weekends as well Chris. Thanks for the vid I will have a change from Rivington/Ramsbottom part of the West Pennines I tend to frequent.So some nice points of interest to look out for.

How do Frank. I know your neck of the woods a bit (my sister in law lives at Ramsbottom) but Blackstone Edge is decent with a fair bit of wild camping potential. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. ATB, Chris

I really enjoyed that Chris, lots of points of interest and your flint find is pretty good eh. I have only been through there on the Pennine Way and I will recall briefly if you dont mind when 6 of us spent the night camped in the car park of the Whitehouse Pub. It was about minus 10c and our boots were completely frozen in the morning. We had a great night in the pub, there was just us and we got pretty drunk and desperately tried to talk the Landlady into letting us sleep on the floor overnight but she would have none of it locked us out in the cold. Thanks for the great vid and nice to see how well you know that area. Cheers 🍻

Thanks Dave and nice to hear of your extreme conditions PW exploits. What year would that be and what time of year too? I did the PW in the summer of 1990 and absolutely loved it. The weather was fantastic almost every day. I was 18 and had just discovered pubs too! The White House is still a decent pub, with some good real ales. Best wishes, Chris.

Great seeing so many familiar places we'v walked through. You mentioned Black Hill, which is another pending walk film waiting to be uploaded. Amazing initiative camping out in the wilds overnight. That must be an adventure to your walking pursuits. Much enjoyed hearing your commentaries including some geology which Michael is also keen on as a hobby. Well done on entertaining film.

Hello Shanita. Sorry for the late reply...I only just noticed you had commented. Black Hill is an old favourite that I first did as a lad in the late 1980s. The summit is much kinder to visitors now than it was back then! I look forward to your upload. Now restrictions are easing I expect to be out wild-camping very soon again but will keep it local until we are allowed to travel further afield. Best wishes, Chris

If you want to do this kind of camping, invest in Buffalo systems clothing and sleeping bags ! It was walking from the White house pub to Stubley pike and back, that I found out how crap Sprayway gore tex jackets were ! Sold my gore tex jackets and trousers to a fisherman and bought Buffalo ! Still in use today ! Over twenty five years later !
@ChrisJB3 жыл бұрын
I know a few people who swear by the Buffalo system. In all honesty every brand of waterproof jacket I've had has wetted out over time and I've never been able to get back to the fresh out of the shop water beading. It is frustrating for sure.

Hi Chris, nice vlog. I'm very local to Blackstone Edge to. I couldn't believe it when you pinched my exact same spot on the west side ha ha ha. I've considered the East side a few times but always found a reason not to pitch there.
@ChrisJB3 жыл бұрын
How do CC. Yes that spot on the west side looks ace and I will use that should I do it again in an easterly wind! A couple of years ago I did camp on the west side but it wasn't half as good a spot as that. Thanks for watching and commenting positively. Best wishes, Chris

Great overnight Chris. I was going to ask can you hear the m62 where you camper? I always feel I can hear snake road when I go out 🤣. Be interested to see more flint and rocks if you have a collection. Be a good rainy day video to do from home. Thanks for sharing your experience. ATB-Phill
@ChrisJB3 жыл бұрын
You can hear the M62 Phill, but just a faint distant hum. It didn't stop me sleeping or anything. I'm glad you liked the flint. I'll try and dig out some more, including my very best ever! Thanks for watching and commenting pal. ATB, Chris

Wow you been going up there since you were 15 then Chris. I bet there aren't many pitches you don't know about. It's a fascinating area on the Pennines - I mean flint tools and who knows what else. I bet the motorway were less busier when you first went up. Mind you a mile in and the sound drifts away no doubt. Any way, good camp out otherwise. Not to severe on top. All the best. Mark
@ChrisJB3 жыл бұрын
How do Mark. Yes ol' Blackstone Edge is a bit of a talismanic hill for me, where it all started as proper hiking really. I remember the day vividly. No map, just following our noses from home. I was with a very good friend that day who died a few years ago so there is extra significance in that respect too. Hope you are well pal and thanks for watching. ATB, Chris
