This wax melt tutorial video will shows some options on how to make wax melts from the comfort of your own home and kitchen. No dedicate workspace or fancy workshop? No problem. You can turn your kitchen into a temporary wax melt making workspace. Wax melts are simple and VERY popular!
We will be making 4-5 small batches just to show you can still be efficient and organized from anywhere. The kitchen is a very popular and common place to start making candles. Hopefully this video can offer you a few tips and some encouragement as well!
By the way, if you are curious, we will be making Laundry Day, Banana Nut Bread, Harvest Moon, Peppermint Patty, and Caramel Corn. Enjoy!

@@BlackTieBarn thank you! I use Problend but I normally get this sink in them even when I pour them way full. Any advice?
@BlackTieBarn

Most pillar and votive blends will so that because they are harder and firmer waxes will shrink a bit more as they cool. Try pouring little lower temp. Try around 140ish. Lower pour Temps means less contraction during cooling.

Hey Lisa. Glad it went pretty well. Fyi on the dimples. Very common with wax melts as they use harder waxes that shrink a bit more. You can poor cooler and they will help. But you can only poor so low before you can't really pour it. Lol

Awesome video! I have such a hard time with perfect tops on my clamshell wax melts, so I started using silicone molds to make them individually, then sell them in travel tins. However, you gave me the inspiration to try the clamshell molds once more! I also learned some new tips and tricks from just this one video. I have subscribed to your channel, and I will definitely be watching more of your videos!
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 3 жыл бұрын
Good tops of melts comes down to basically two things: 1) wax type- experiment with a few find what you like best snd gives you the closest results you want 2) pour temp. Since wax shrinks as it cools, you get will cavities or crater looking tops if you pour too hot. Because thst meant more shrinking as it cooled. So, lower your pour temp as much as you can while still being hot enough to easily pour. This will decrease the overall contraction of the wax. With what is used in this video ( problend 650 and pillar of bliss ) I find 140-145 to be perfect for me. It might vary with other waxes of course. Hope this helps

Wade, I wanted to let you know that I started using coconut apricot wax about one month ago and I tried making clamshell wax melts with it. The melts came out perfect! This wax is so easy to use; you can practically abuse it, and it just never causes any problems! I can't believe that I struggled with basic soy wax for over a year. I am going to continue to use soy wax in the future, but I'm going to switch over to Pillar of Bliss or Soy Bliss, which is basically the same type of wax, just different vendors.

Hello! I'm curious, and I'm sorry if someone has already asked this, but how long does it actually take you to make the 5 sets of 6 wax melts? Not necessarily adding the labeling at the end, but the measuring and then melting of the wax, adding everything in and pouring? It's hard to tell, but it doesn't seem to take you very long? I've recently started looking into candle making as a business opportunity and I LOVE your videos. You give great tips and your videos are so easy to follow along with! Thank you so much for your help!

Wax melts can take a while depending on how much you are melting (and the type of wax). But I just keep my tank on all day. When making a batch just starting out and melting your wax on demand, hard to say but mostly anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes I guess. But you can do other things while it's melting. The rest is pretty quick once you get used to making them. By the time you measure it, mix in the oil and dye, and pour... thats all done withing 5 minutes per batch. So it's mostly about meling and then editing to use the products! :)

Hey! Watching this... again lol I've heard some makers pour FO then add color because some FO can change the color. Have you ever done it like that? Does it really make a difference or would the difference be so small that it's still better to add color first before it cools off so much? Are there specific FOs that do do that?

You didn't really miss it. ... it just depends on the wax. Most waxes used for wax melts will hardern in a few hours and cash be used after 24 hours. But some people use soft waxes that are really mesnt for container candles. Those will take much longer to cool.

I have several metal pitchers just so I have extras on hand (they eventually wear out and break). I also use several when working on multiple batches simultaneously (which I don't do often as its difficult to manage). So, yes you can use a pouring pitcher over and over no problem. Just wipe them down completely while still hot to get all the wax out. Spritz with rubbing alcohol and wipe again if needed. You may still smell the aroma from the last batch but it isn't the actual wax and it isn't going to transfer to the next batch. Candle makers do this all the times it is not an issue as long as you are cleaning out the pitchers in between thoroughly. You definitely do not need one for every oil. That is insane. I would have 200 pitchers. 😆
