The RTF package is an okay, simple way to get you flying; but using a full-size computer radio really makes the Nano S3 worth it's price.

I bought it few days ago for indoor flying. So far I'm very pleased with it, even though it's my first one "real" helicopter after years of using flight sims (which combined with previous understanding of helicopter dynamics is a huge head start). I got RTF because I wanted to keep costs to minimum while checking out if I like it enough to justify further investments. I want to point out three things: 1) stock Tx do show helicopter battery voltage. After Tx power up, the LED shows Tx battery pack voltage for the first 4 seconds and then switches to helicopter telemetry by showing green, yellow, red light in sequence. Manual says the yellow zone is between 3.7 and 3.3V. I didn't check it, but it really starts with green and then goes to yellow. If I press on after helicopter's canopy started blinking red (=LVC warning) Tx LED turns red soon enough. 2) actually it is possible to fly in blue intermediate flight mode on stock Tx. Set green mode, press and hold panic button and then switch to red flight mode, while holding panic the whole time. The helicopter will fly just like in green mode, but with increased rotor speed and collective authority which makes it easier and more fun to fly. The drawbacks are the need to hold the damn button pressed down and constant beeping of the Tx. 3) there are better models, but availability is as important as quality and in that regard no brand can beat Blade in my area. Every shop has all the parts in stock all the time and their cost is really acceptable. Sure, Align T15 looks amazing, but here it's 50% more expensive than S3, available only on special order and the only parts that are readily available without the need to import from abroad are rotor blades and skids.

i'm only an intermediate pilot, but i can do many maneuvers with my 230sv2, Blade450x, and Blade 360CFX. I found stunt mode with the rtf transmitter nearly impossible to control, stability mode is super easy even with the rtf tx. The computer radio is essential.

I got this BNF, downloaded the template for my nx8 and bound them. I have a hold mode on the right. The B switch gives, normal, stunt 1 and stunt 3. However it won't spin up in normal mode. Only in the other two. Anyone else see that issue?

Did you make sure to bind it correctly? There are two different bind procedures depending on if your using a computer radio, or the RTF radio. If that’s not your problem, I recommend just setting everything up manually using the manual.

I'm pretty much brand new to this and just bought this model for fun. In the stability mode, it doesn't really stay stationary in the air. If I give it a few seconds it will start drifting or going up/down. Also, it seems like I can't trim it enough with the OOTB transmitter to stop it from floating back and to the right. Any tips? Also are the tail rotor and rudder supposed to be at an angle, maybe 10 degrees off?
@mangzrc
@mangzrc 2 жыл бұрын
It will always drift & slowly gain/lose altitude, there’s nothing you can do to keep it perfectly stable unless you yourself keep it perfectly stable. SAFE works well, but not perfect. It’s the nature of the beast, helis always require constant input to keep them from drifting around, the larger ones not so much, but these smaller ones definitely. Center your trims on your radio and then closely look at your swash plate, if it is slightly off it will drift in that area, you can adjust those little links by turning the rod end. If you try and “perfect” it, you’ll never be able too, it’s gonna drift and move and trimming does help but it’s never perfect. Yes the tail motor is mounted a little off, that is intentional. The larger helis are much easier to work on and tune, they are also more stable. There is also a drift calibration you can do, that may help. It is explained in the manual on how to do it. Let me know if you have anymore issues.

you do such a good job narrating so clean so clear… My friend gave me this helicopter and I can fly around no problem though I'm not doing 3-D… But the balance point is forward of the the mast? seems wrong to me… It shows in pirouette's they're not clean it gets pushed out of its own rotation… does yours fly nose heavy as well is this normal? Anyway I hope I hear from you and thanks
@mangzrc
@mangzrc 2 жыл бұрын
A good way to check CG is to hold the heli horizontal by the rotor head and see if the nose drops towards the ground, or the tail. It should balance. I always ran the little 1s 150s all the way forward. I haven’t experienced too much drift while pirouetting, nor did mine seem nose heavy. It may be that the swash is not perfectly level, or SAFE is causing it too tilt forward, there are so many different variables and it is hard to dissect them all with the heli being so small and the tolerances being sloppy due to the nature of the design. I kinda just expect and accept the little abnormalities of tiny helis, I don’t tend to look too far into it.

You can’t go wrong with the Blade 230S RTF as a first heli. That’s what I started with and had great success with it. The smaller helis are not as stable and don’t handle wind as well, but the 230 is just big enough to be a really good flyer all around. You could go with the Blade S3 RTF but it’s not going to satisfy you for a long time, but it is very durable.

Think it's a little confusing that you're showing the pitch angles with the blades tucked in instead of full out as they would be in flight or spooling, as the 90 angle of the blades you are showing is a little confusing. Just my .002.

Jim, if you consider position 0 (hold mode) a “flight mode”, then you are correct; but I personally do not see how that is a “flight mode”. To my knowledge and understanding the modes for RTF are as follows: 0=hold mode, 1=safe & stability Z, 2=3D. On page 9 of the manual it clearly states this. That is 2 different “flight” modes. Thanks.
