From executive producer Ridley Scott and director Denis Villeneuve, #BladeRunner2049 stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana De Armas, MacKenzie Davis, Sylvia Hoeks, Lennie James, Carla Juri, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista and Jared Leto.

Props to Warner Bros for not ruining a great film with a crowd-pleasing action-packed sequel with no brain. they delivered a fantastic thought-provoking Jewel and worthy sequel of one of the greatest science fiction films of all time. Shame the mass audience is not into intelligent films. If they make another one I hope they do it the same way.

How can people say it sucked? I understand and respect your opinion, but damn, this movie was an opus. The visuals were outstanding. The story, albeit slow, was satisfying as a sequel. The atmosphere was just as dark and moody as the first. The buildup to the action of the last 45 minutes was worth it. The first blade runner ended with tears in the rain, this was ended with a smile in the snow. The contrast between the two movies is beautiful.
@Windupchronic
@Windupchronic 6 жыл бұрын
It's slow and it requires thought. Some people don't want to think when they go to the movies; others just hate slow movies. Maybe they thought it was going to be an action movie, but if they thought the sequel to Blade Runner was going to be an action movie and not a meditation on what it means to be human, they weren't paying attention to the first movie, which was itself a quite slow and deliberately paced meditation on humanity.
@Windupchronic
@Windupchronic 6 жыл бұрын
SUPER TOASTER Okay, settle down. The original isn’t a masterwork of Plato either. If it was so great, Scott wouldn’t have had to keep screwing with it. Even his final version isn’t perfect. If anything he made it worse by attempting to implicitly implicate that Deckard might be a replicant, which thematically muddles the very question he’s posing. His theme works if there’s the contrast between human and replicant interactions, their behavior and decisions when presented with the same information. If anyone could be a replicant, then the very theme he’s trying to explore becomes moot. These are slow, plodding meditations with small bursts of action. Whether they hit the mark is up for each individual to decide. Both films are flawed. Both films are trying to say something. My issue with 2049 rests solely on the villains. Leto’s motivations are unclear. He wants the child, presumably to dissect it to find a biological answer, but why? Does he hope to control replicant reproduction? Does he think he even can if they start breeding? What is it specifically that he’s trying to accomplish? Also, his henchman is like a bad Bond villain. I’m usually 100% on board with strong female characters, but she reminded me of Jaws from Spy Who Loved Me. Not a good thing. She felt completely out of place in the Blade Runner universe.

It has made more then what it cost to make. Production budget was 150 million, it has done 80+ mil domestic + 140+ mil world wide for a total of around 225 mil at the moment. And still making about a million a day domestically and almost double that ww. With dvd and streaming sales it should make at least double the money it cost to make. They should be happy with that!
@triodesrbetter
@triodesrbetter 6 жыл бұрын
Gross box office receipts is not profit. Studio takes about 50% of domestic revenue and even less (~25%) in foreign countries. Current box office is at 90 million domestic and 165 mil foreign. Total WW box office at 255 million. That's a big loss for a 150 million budget film. Even more if you add in marketing costs. Right now reports are producers will lose ~80 million.

I went into this theater not knowing a single thing about blade runner. All I knew was that this movie had ryan gosling, harrison ford, and jared leto in it. And I am beyond pleasantly surprised. It was an incredible movie. And watching the trailers now, I realized they don't really show you what this movie is about. And _that's_ how all trailers should be. You get a sense for the movie, but you shouldn't know what it's about so that you're more immersed in the storyline when you watch it for the first time. I wish more trailers were like this one. Loooved the movie!!

Anyone dissing this film has not seen it. Dennis is the best director working right now, and Deakins just proved he is the greatest living cinematagrapher. There is no cash grab here, Rogerio go see it before you regret saying what you just did. I really mean that, as a lifetime fan of the original before most people even knew about it, the sequel is insanely good. A new classic easily. If the same team makes Dune as planned next, they will be talked about as the golden age team. Seriously, Dennis and Deakins did Sicario, another masterpiece. Think before spitting assumptions out because you have a giant slice of angry at the world to get even with. This is not a cash grab as you implied, thesly made a masterpiece...

Unfortunately that's one of the very things that hurt this movie's numbers at the box office. I too didn't know a thing about Blade Runner going in. I didn't watch part 1 until after I saw this, I loved them both. It's just my kind of movie. The trailer looked really interesting and had good music. But like you said, it didn't tell you what the movie was about. The casual audience has been spoiled with trailers that show practically the whole movie. I think the fact that these Blade Runner trailers didn't do that is why a lot of people didn't go out to see this film and it did so bad at the box office sadly. For me personally though, it's one of my top 2 movies of the year, next to Logan. I became a huge fan after seeing Blade Runner 2049 and even more after watching Blade Runner The Final Cut. Can't wait for the Blu-Ray in January.

Once again, Roger Deakins gives a master class in cinematography. For those who don't know him, he has shot 50+ films, has 13 Oscar nominations, but 0 wins, which is criminal. A brief list here from his cinematography resume... The Shawshank Redemption Dead Man Walking Fargo The Big Lebowski O Brother, Where Art Thou? I think the trailers are action-heavy in order to get casual moviegoers in the door. I fully expect the actual product, in its totality, to be much more measured and deliberative, given the resumes of the people attached to it. Fancher returned for the screenwriting, and Villeneuve and Deakins have been a formidable pairing in previous films. I am still a bit apprehensive, but they did hire the right people to make this film.

I hope you're right. Don't want to judge anything before I see the final product, but by the looks of the trailer, there are too many fast-paced sequences (for my taste that is). He doesn't want anyone taking his role haha but Harrison is old and is still a good man those interviews is just him playing around or really bored. Jimmy Fallon he had fun over there. It's like trying to cheer someone up. Then it's hard to do it to Harrison because he his Harrison Ford. It's just Harrison he is very a mix. Can't get up to his head about wtf he is thinking about so lot of times unpredictable.

I can't believe that people think with this cast, Deakins' cinematography, Ridley Scott's approval and involvement, Fancher and Green's screenplay, but above all goddamn Denis Villeneuve's direction, that this movie will be anything less than phenomenal.

Director Krennic I never count my chickens before they hatch, but it does look promising. I would be very happy if this comes out well. I think it's fine for people to be skeptical knowing what's happened on set previously from the first movie, ther is reason to be skeptical. Ten bucks says they brought Harrison back just to kill him like Han Solo

Let me clarify. I don't like these trailers. They show a poorly CG rendered futuristic world, unlike the original which is known for its groundbreaking special effects - thanks in large part to Doug Trumbull - that have ZERO CG effects. And lets be honest, the original story wasn't very good. Hell, most people don't even know or can recall what the story was about. The film stands apart because of its visuals and how they help with the world building factor. I hope this film is the opposite with a very good and compelling story, but with shoddy visual effects because so far, that is all they have shown us. Just when you thought they left Ghost in the Shell style effects in the dust. I honestly don't think this film is going to be good. They also only spent about a year on the screenplay, so you know how that goes. No time for rewrites.

It is the perfect sequel to a jewel that did not need any sequel. I just watched it. I look forward to watch it 3 or 4 more times to "get it better". And I watched the original one well over 200 times ... I'm not the only one apparently :-) Both are rare masterpieces of art cinematography, in a genre filled with bad blockbusters. Yes indeed 2001 A Space Odyssey is a good movie, so are The Matrix § Interstellar, The Andromeda Strain § Ex Machina (etc...). But none of those have such a magical photography, perfect soundtrack (especially Blade Runner), top quality acting, every detail so masterfully crafted § presenting you some of the most important subjects a human being could get into, and leave you with decades of questionning after having watched them... Both of those movies set the trends, others follow... I wonder what Denis Villeneuve is going to do with Dune :-) Most probably an instant classic science fiction masterpiece...We'll see... To my opinion, Blade Runner § Blade Runner 2049 stand above any other science fiction/anticipation movie, and each of them is the ultimate sf masterpiece of its generation... But that's just me, officer A speaking ...

I'm looking forward to the movie - but I'm afraid this will be a disappointment in a long line quasi-remakes: SW, ST, Prometheus, etc. where the focus is not on making a good movie - but trying to make as many nostalgic connections to the original movies as they can.

I'm from Indonesia: I've just finished watching this movie,. and it's now already becoming one of my top most favorite movie! it's extremely VERY RARE to see this type of movie (genre)...which I always wish people could appreciate it more... but in reality, again...this is not the type of movie for everyone, obviously... (not the typical "mainstream / hype" trending / action-superhero blockbusters type of movie) futuristic, sci-fi, dystopian, deep, smart/thoughtful, philosophical, speculative, artistic, imaginative,...with many deeper meaningful layers & metaphors/symbolism...with a very unique & peculiar 'irony' & 'emptiness' feels & tones heavily reminds me of "The Matrix" trilogy, the recent "Ghost In The Shell" earlier this year, which -again- have always been my favorite movie genre! will definitely watch it again for the second time (or perhaps even more)...because, for me personally,.it's really WORTH IT,.!!

Bladerunner 2049 was a masterpiece of true art within a movie. The cinematography in the movie was stunning and the music was beautifully composed and the various colors portrayed the different emotions which were used to gain curiosity of life and existence.

Yes, I really believe Arrival is garbage. It WAS boring. I didn't have trouble following the movie so understanding it wasn't an issue. It just tried very hard to be profound. I could see the twist ending from a mile away and I almost started laughing at the part about the General and his phone number. Contrived garbage. It was eyerollingly bad. Don't know about his other movies because I haven't seen them so he very well could be a good director but Arrival was not good. Everyone is on this guy's nuts for some reason. Hopefully this movie is good though.

if anything it sounds like a homage to Vangelis's work on the first film it is not 'synthwave' , it sounds very nice tho anyone know who the composer is on this movie? edit: it is Jóhann Jóhannsson

Composer is Jóhann Jóhannsson. The original Vangelis theme from the first movie is obviously there. A large part of the mood in the first movie was generated by Vangelis' music, so I hope it will continue in this one.

R. scott will be all over him and wont give him the freedom he needs. it will probably be a bad movie. the original version of the original ended with deckard not knowing if he was a replicant or not(he wasn't, but this was changed by scotts meddling) this movie will go forward with the idea he was a replicant all along(and will be shit story wise bc of it)

So this movie confirms that Deckard is a Replicant? "I had to cover my tracks... We were being hunted!" He could be referring to Rachael, but after the Blade Runner Final Cut and the Ridley Scott interviews I think it's pretty much confirmed that Deckard is a Replicant too.
@namesgamby
@namesgamby 6 жыл бұрын
Molasses I thought the opposite. Since Deckard is older in this one he definitely is not a replicant. Also if he was one he would be dead in 4 years right? Since we don't see the girl we can assume that she died when her time was up but Deckard kept on living

This movie really impressed me. It didn't retread on the original, it expanded the world with a good story with the same pacing, impressive visual effects and interesting characters. It doesn't spoon-feed you, it makes you wonder and that's what I wanted. This is a sequel done right. It was done with love and care, not like the Star Wars sequels. I want more of this. Clearly the director loves and understands the source material.
