Things always going well for Germamy? In 2010 Ballack missed the WC due to an injury. In 2014, one of the key players, namely Reus, couldnt join the WC either due to an injury. Khedira went into the WC with just recovered from an injury. Schweinsteiger went into the WC with not fully recovered from an injury. He couldnt even play the first match. Before the quarter-final, half of the team catched a cold, because they had to play under very high tropical temp and right after in the cold temp of the Brazil South. Right before the final started, Khedira got injured and couldnt play. Loew had to replace him just minutes before the game started with Kramer. Then Kramer got knocked out after 15 min and played another 15 min with having a blackout. So they basically were just 10 players for like 15 min. Wouldnt say things always going well for them. Not at all. They just didnt make such a drama out of it and pointed it out, but rather stayed focused. And that they had a benefit of not playing editional time is something, is a very well deserved and compiled benefit. Their own achieve. that goes back the quality they had. So the benefit of that was well compiled and deserved. And the extra days is something that runs through every tournament. This is part of the game and if you wanna win the cup, the whole team has to be fit enough to cope with that and playing 7 games on a high level.

Not sure if it would have been a successful tournament for Germany in 2010 if Ballack would have been available. Löw was forced to bring other players, especially Khedira. Nobody really expected a lot from that inexperienced German team but they pulled off some of the most exciting performances in years, especially against England and Argentina. Regarding things supposedly going Germanys way I would also like to add that they played the World Cups 1982 and 1986 without their best player at that time, Bernd Schuster. But even without him they made it to both finals. Not sure if he would have made a decisive difference to win one of those two finals but it would have been much more difficult for Italy and Argentina to beat Germany.

It is always the same story: When Germany wins, people would like to pretend that they just got lucky and stuff somehow went their way. That is such nonsense. The Germans imaginary luck is always based upon hard work. People who know their craft often make it look easy because they know what they are doing. From a German perspective the idea that an English team would somehow expect to get through to the next round, when they are up against Germany in a shoot out is quite a joke. It is very well known that the Germans practice for those situations and are therefore prepared and the English could not hit the goal if their life depended on it. Germans tend to win these shoot outs like 80% of the time because they are prepared for it. And seemingly the English team does not prepare for it, but just hopes to somehow get lucky. One would think that after being relatively unsuccessful for over 50 years during World Cup Tournaments that a country would wake up and correctly analyze what the reason is that other countries are more successful but as long as the English experts and commentators are so clueless as to believe in luck, instead of understanding the very obvious reason for the German teams succes, we will not have to worry about England getting anywhere near the finals in these worldcup tournaments. Even the Americans, who are totally new at this, seem to easily understand that luck has little to do with it.

I like Gary Lineker, he comes across as a objective, humorous and easy going guy. And he don't plays the on german/british stereotypes, which I find noteable. By that I mean he don't dive deep into germans are like a robotic/emotionaless/robotic/clinical machine that much, but portraits us more like we're "efficient" which I like.

Yes that's right. The only thing I wouldn't agree with in this video is his judgement oń the course of the tournament in Italia '90. Germany didn't cruise to the semifinals. They faced the then-European Champions Netherlands, a magnificent team around Rijkard, Gullit, van Basten in the round of sixteen.This match is still one of the most notorious and ill-fated in worldcup history. That was certainly not plain sailing. Apart from that Germany lost Völler already in the first half of the semis due to injury and had to bring on Thon and Hässler because Littbarski and Bein were declared unfit. After injury Hässler wasn't able to go fulltime, let alone extra time. So they had their problems too. Nevertheless, this takes nothing away from a great match and a great english side. A match that will be remembered for a long time coming. And what a climax it had! Can it get any better than that?

Germany is so often underestimated - because nobody wants them to win, they are always regarded as the one's who 'got lucky' or 'fumbled through', which is why this WC had everyone so shocked, even though Germany made it to semis and finals almost constantly in the past couple of tournaments

I let you all in on the secret of the German success vs. teams like England. I mean of course there are cycles, some years one team is better, some years the other. But in 2002 for instance, England had the better team, yet Germany reached the final. And why did Germany win vs. England in 1990? Here it comes. The secret can be distilled down to one word: Preparation. It starts with the team. German coaches don't just select the best 23 performers of the last year, but the best unit. Then they extensively prepare the team while their scouts find out absolutely everything about the opposition. In Brazil they built their own camp because nothing that was available fit their requirements. And penalties are of course something you can prepare as well. It's not the luck of the draw as English coaches want you to believe.
@thalamay
@thalamay 8 жыл бұрын
I've recently seen a 25 year old documentary about the 1990WC. Völler missed the semi final because he was sent off vs Holland for being spat upon (yeah, that happened), but he was one of the 5 designated shooters for the penalties. So Beckenbauer asked Riedle instead to go first. He said that when Riedle scored, he knew Germany would win, because all the other 4 had a perfect record and never missed during training. His only concern was Illgner in goal who for all his qualities couldn't save penalties to save his life, so he hoped that someone would miss or accidentally hit Illgner...which is what happened.

Well, you're riight, german sides are usually well prepared. But in '90... that was a match on a knifes edge. And penalties - Illgner was certainly no penalty-killer. Even Franz Beckenbauer later admitted that he feared a shootout during the tournament. They "survived" the semifinals, but that wasn't a foregone conclusion.

In sports the English do not hate the Germans, Maradona cheated England with the Goal of the Hand only the Goal that Eludes the players six English players as Individual Goal, but unfortunately the Goal Realized in the Pes 2015 the Pes 6 in level ultra Hard is better for the English than the goal of Maradona. Argentina will win worlds with one player for each State, we are sure of that and with a collective game to England.

Here is the truth as I see it: The reason the english cannot understand why Germany is so good is because they refuse to believe it, because, well because it is Germany. And so again and again they fail and Germany reaches the 8th final of the 16th appearance with now 4 titles. That's 1 final every 2nd cup and 1 title every 4th. Semi final on AVERAGE (a bit more actualy). What England should do is look at Germany, learn and understand their game. You learn from the best and right now that is Germany and they have always been at the top or near to it. Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored. -Aldous Huxley You cannot just pretend Germany has a weak defence and mediocre strikers (until they are the highest scorers of all time) and expect to win anything. Understand the player's strengths. It is harder when they don't seem as flashy and athletic. Mertesacker and Hummels are slow I heard a lot. Do you think we really care? If you have a sweeper behind them does it even matter? Yet the pundits keep mentioning it like they found a weakness and then they bet against Germany... Until the last competition the english team did not even train penalty shootouts... And you expect to win one? It's not all luck you know? Remember Lehmann's notes vs Argentina? Even winning penalties requires effort and a close look at your opponents. Not just luck and nerves of steel.

+MWcrazyhorse I agree in most parts. I am german myself but try to look at things from an objective point of view. 1) Enlang need to get off thier high horse. Just because they're the self proclaimed motherland of football (the game was actually invented in china) doesn't mean a thing. Ok, they won in 66 and were unlucky to lose in penalties in 90 but apart from that they've never really played a role an world cups. 2) Why is Germany better than England on an international level? Quite simple. While on club level we might not be able to compete, with the exception of Bayern Munich, we are superior to England on the international level and have been for a long time. We have an amazing youth system and a high number of our youth players play first team football in the the Bundesliga or abroad. 3) Following up. After the more or less catastrophical era from 1998 - 2004 (2002 Final? No Idea how we made that one) we radically rethought our system, built up youth academys and went new ways. It took us 2!! years to form a winning squad. We played amazing Foootball at the confederations cup 2005 and the WC 2006. And then came the masterpiece. Klinsmann left and we got Löw. A Tactical Genius with a masterplan. Since 2006 we've made the minium the semi of every major tournament. Our tally since 2006: WC: 2 3rd places & 1 Win EC: 1 2nd place & one shared 3rd. So, I do not mean to gloat but looking at us over the course of the last decades we rack up a tally scond to none. Most final apps. Most semis, most thirds etc. Yes, some of that was undeserved, lucky and just plain horrible to watch but what seperates us from the rest of the European power houses and the south americans is one thing and one thing alone: We're not and have never been the best techinal side, we'Ve only been playing attractive footbal fr the last 8 Years. What makes us THE team that nobady wants to play and everybody is afraid of, is the fact the we go into to a game, a tournament with one goal: we win! No matter how or why but we win. We've won games and championschips we should'Ve lost soley becasue of that. In closing. The 4:1 thumping in 2010 England got, and it could'Ve been much higher, should've been a wake up call to change things. What has happend since then? Even less U21 players in the PL team starting 11, even less english players in the starting 11. The PL can Spend as much money as they want, they might be the better league but if that püolicy continues England won't win a title in the next 50 years and that would, if I were an england supporter, frustrate the hell out of me becasue they actually have the players and the coaches neccesary to achieve that! Fine you beat us 5:1 in Munich and 1:0 in the Euro 2004. What have you got to show for it and what we until now? Here's to the hope that England may once again become the rival we played in so many epic games!

I think kids learn 5 languages in primary school in germany. They have a calm education and they learn about other countries slowly and in depth. I think this is where their calm comes from, by knowing the oppositions habits. Other people prefer to not always know what is going to happen, so they can have explosive celebrations.

In 1990 England were so much better than West Germany, the German goal off Paul Parker in the Wall was so jammy. But it was destiny. Germany had just been reunited and had history to make. They played in their green shirts and we in the Irish bar in Düsseldorf lustily sang “c’mon you boys in green”. The best team England ever had at a World Cup (since 66), with Lineker bagging a beauty. I still to this day, do not understand how West Germany hung on for the inevitable penalty shoot out. A great time to be young and Irish in Germany. Ich werd’ es nie vergessen. Niemals. But I felt for the English lads.

Germany was not reunified when the WC 1990 was played. The iron curtain was down but reunification took place on October 3, so a few months later. The game itself was pretty close, with some post hits on both sides. Going to penalties reflected that and then it was just about finest margins: how confident are the players taking the shot? How good are the GK in penalties? And the German players were extremely relaxed and confident. Green as the color for their away shirts was actually chosen because after WW2 Ireland was the first country willing to play against Germany, so the color was chosen as a nod to the Irish.

Hmm to me Lineker sounds bitter about Germany's success. His compliments are also quite underhanded. Like saying there is no great team in the tournament, so yeah Germany might win it... Then always pointing out weaknesses, like that this is something especially common for German teams. If Germany has weaknesses then what about any other football team in the world? Never heard him point out great weaknesses in Brazilian or Argentinian teams. Even after they were dismantled by Germany all these English pundits said, was more or less, that these South American teams had a bad and these were just freak results. But yeah as long Lineker and the English keep looking at Germany like that, I am pretty sure they never will catch up. So well in the end I am fine with him being so ignorant. ;)

Germany is England's arch nemesis in football. They want to have the success that Germany had. So it's likely pure jealousy, because deminishing the success of others that you actually want to have yourself, is a common behaviour when jealous. On the other hand England is for Germany what Leicester City is for ManU , it's respected, but nothing special.

In 2014 Germany didn't just find a way to win. Neither did they in the tournaments before in 2012, 2010, 2008 or 2006. They had an incredible side and honestly the best on paper as well in 2014. These players played excellent football beating all big nations (in friendlies or at big tournaments). Now, you see where Germany is at in 2022 because they no longer have those quality players. Germany could and should have won 2010 and 2012 as well.

All German 2014 matches but two were close in 2014, so yes, we were lucky that we got away with the drawbacks ouf our play style back then. However, becoming world champion needs a bit of luck in any case. I heard that the best team (whatever might be the procedure to determine who's the best) typically has a 35% chance of becoming world champion. We were in the semifinals four times in a row back then, so I guess that we finally got enough chances for a lucky die roll... and I think that if you can beat France and the two southern Americn powerhouses in south America, you kind of deserve to become champion. So regarding luck, there's a German saying: Luck is with the diligent. We needed four semifinals to become world champions once. Semifinals = four teams. Sounds fair!

Here's another German saying: a good horse jumps just as high as necessary. Means that winning is important, regardless if you're one goal up, two, three or four. If you are two up it is of course more relaxed but e.g. during the 2014 game against France I never felt that Germany could lose.
