I'm an old punk. Loud, crunchy, industrial, metal, etc. have always been scene. Doesn't mean I can chill to some AM Gold, or throw on showtunes, or even bop to some good hip hop. There are genres I'm still not going out of my way to listen to, but I can always find an artist or two in there that I can jive with. Ren is a bit of a genre bender. Doesn't quite fit into one box since he dips his toes into a lot of styles, sometimes mashing them up in a way that is unexpected. I love Ren songs that pierce my soul, but I appreciate the fuck out of how theatrical he can be. He his a grade A story teller. Great review and I appreciate your perspective.

I am a 57 year old female. Ronnie James Dio was and is my god. I also love Cradle of Filth. Kalmah, Dimmu Borgir, Ensiferum and so on. However... Ren.. damn him. I find myself playing his music all the time. Even his rapping. Which.. I despised rap. He is so multi- faceted. His talent is above and beyond that you have so many different variations of his music. And now Chinchilla is what I listen to all the time now too. She has a voice that no other female artist has. I feel with Ren... that I never really experience true music until he came along. And I think some of it has to deal with the realness of his stories. But Mackay.. that musical piece just soaked my soul. I didn't need lyrics to know exactly what he wanted to say. To me, that is a true artist.

I’m a metal head turned Ren 😂 Good luck trying to put Ren in a box. Not going to happen. The talent speaks for itself, but the person that is Ren, his story and character, is why I support him. It doesn’t hurt that I haven’t heard a bad song from him. Nor do I plan to. His next album will be singing and instruments. He may have some spoken word, but no rap. Ren learned how to play guitar watching Jimi Hendrix on KZfaq. John Frusciante as well from RHCP. His tone sounds so good. He just flows with it. Anyway, nice reaction. Peace ✌🏻

I like your reaction, the problem with Ren was that he had misdiagnosed Lyme disease for about 7 years, and was being dismissed and told it was all in his head, eventually he went into full blown psychosis. Ren has all genres of music on his own, with collaborations and with his band The Big Push, he can't be put into a box, I'm sure you'll find something you like in and amongst his vast body of work ❤

You like it, but you like it in a different way. Ren's songs aren't just something you can play in your headphones and listen to casually, you have to stop EVERYTHING and really fucking listen. He's brilliant, amazing reaction btw 🖤🫂

Your analogy and review makes sense to me, I grew up and consider myself a rock lover from 70/80's to modern stuff and then Ren come along and broke the me out of my square box. I would turn my nose up towards any kind of Rap/DnB/EDM etc 10 months ago until I accidentally stumbled onto Hi Ren and now I cant get enough all kinds of music he puts out from his rap to his story telling and I love watching people get that same feeling I got when listening to him.

Check out Crutch, it’s an earlier masterpiece that was done when he was going through a mental breakdown, I believe. It’s gold and very under appreciated.

I am an old school metal head. Love the type-o hat. Nota rap listener. That being said, Ren is the first artist in 20 years that I am so excited about. He is creative, dynamic, authentic, and expressive in a way that is a rare gem. Please explore more. He does ballads, rap, rock, ska, reggae…. Really diverse and exciting. Great reaction. Maybe try one of his non rap songs like Chalk Outlines, crutch, how to be me

Wow. Great reaction! You described Ren perfectly in terms of not understanding why or even if you actually like it. He is independent and he is different from any “genre”. He sings, raps, tells stories, creates covers in his own style. Keep going down the Ren material before making a final judgement. He’s actually been around for a while but just recently became recognized by the masses. He’s already created a very intense following of millions. Never been anyone quite like him before. Don’t know where it’s going but we’re all along for the journey!

Loved this thoughtful intelligent reaction . Personally I only started listening to rap about 4 years ago and have learned to have a great respect for it.. Ren however is more than Rap and more than a genre ! He does it all. Interested to hear you react to more from Ren. Subbed.

I’m an old metal head. My son is the vocalist in a Metal band. I can listen to lots of other genres too but the minute I heard Hi Ren last January that’s all I listen to. I will sneak an odd Disturbed, Linkin Park but 99% Ren. He’s a musical genius. I suffer with severe chronic pain like in his song Seven Sins and Ren makes me feel hopeful and not hopeless. He has 200 + songs so there’s something for everyone. Really good reaction. Subbed for more Ren

Music is Ren's therepy it helps others who have been through difficulties This one is him venting on the medical industry They told him his illness was in his head The line sick boi sick boi bitten by a tick boi is his truth Ticks cause Lymes disease which can be fatal and does cause immense suffering if its not treated quickly He was gaslit for years in his twenties while the Lymes was attacking his body and brain causing permanent physical damage

I remember I didn't like this when it came out a year ago. There was too much chaos for me. But now I come back to this again and again and again. Perhaps for exactly the same reason. Liked your analysis. I wonder if it even matters if you "like"it. It is disturbing and keeps one stirred within and growing. Great art should make one think and react emotionally. Growth comes from discomfort. Ren was told his illness was in his mind ,discounting his reports of the reality of his pain and fatigue. But he was SICK with Lyme disease which was destroying him from within. His PTSD regarding YEARS of this treatment, still effects him 14 years into his illness. Ren fell into psychosis 6 years into his illness after an immune reaction to another treatment he had pinned his hopes on. He still did not have a correct diagnosis and his reaction triggered extreme pain and bitterness. The song that describes this aftet 13 years of suffering is Seven Sins. I would love to hear your reaction to this.

Very very nice and insightful reaction. Ren always wants to make a positive impact on people by shedding lights on why we don't feel well. Easier to find a solution if we know and admit what is wrong. Different is awesome, I like when it's a bit uncomfortable too. Tickles new areas in my brain 🤩

Great reaction! You summed up exactly how I felt about Ren when I first heard him. Wasn’t sure if it was ‘my sort of music’ But what I did know was that I NEEDED to hear more. And the more I listened to him the more I became completely obsessed with not only the music but with Ren as a person and with what he stands for. Enjoy the ride xx

I think you need to hear some SINGING Ren; you've done Hi Ren, What You Want, and Sick Boi - you need to hear what he does in rock/alternative/whatever mode. I prescribe Diazepam. His song, I mean. (sorry, I had to) Or Chalk Outlines (LIVE) - it'll introduce you to Chinchilla, too. They've done this one and one other collaboration in the past, and they've just finished recording another 2 (Maybe it was 3? One can only hope. Someone will know), yet to be released. Alternately, head over to The Big Push's stuff. You'll find *incredible* vocals (by Ren & by bandmate Gorran) on the red suspenders thumbnail of I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop, and on the Wade in the Water/Nina Simone/Trouble So Hard video. I mean, and in pretty much every other video The Big Push has, but the vocals on those two videos are often talked about as being particularly special. I really appreciated your willingness to spend time talking about your impressions & thoughts! I'm definitely someone who gets really excited when I click on a reaction to a song and find that the reaction video has a MUCH longer run time than the original video does.

So I’ve only just discovered ren myself I don’t really do rap or metal lol I was always a Pink Floyd head so… I like your approach here I like your honesty I like your open mind as well But man look ren doesn’t have a box he fits in His catalog is sooooo damn deep I’m 3 mos in and I discover new ren every day He said in an interview that if he made music everyone liked it may just be vanilla or beige He has literally a style in his bag for just about everyone I hope you’ll continue to go down this rabbit hole I can say it’s enriched my world He also surrounds himself with some of the coolest most interesting and talented artist I’ve ever experienced I subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching your journey ✌🏼

You said how this doesn't sound like rap, but more like a sub-genre or a mix of genres, but that's exactly what Ren does. Most of his songs have two, three, four (or however many he decides to put in) genres mixed in.

As much as I hate rap music I must amdit that I've enjoyed this song. It's so easy for people to say "get help" when the side effects of all those drugs are sometimes even worse then the Mental Illness itself.

The only rap I liked before listening to Ren was Eminem. I’ve got to appreciate the genre a lot more through his music. Now I can’t get enough of whatever genre he’s doing on the day - he’s uniquely gifted at lyricism and emotional channeling through music. Also a fine brain and underpinning compassion. It’s a spellbinding mixture

I've always felt that Ren doesn't fit any specific genre mold. This song like so many of Ren's tracks are more of an experience than you would get listening to most music, they take multiple listens to really take it in. Ren can and does do it all. I suggest you check out his band "The Big Push" they have a cover of War Pigs performed live while busking in the streets of Brighton that feels like it would be right up your alley.

That’s a really good analysis. Ren is his own lane. Wait till you get to Seven Sins. It’ll wallop you. I also recommend Suicide and Chalk Outlines (with Chinchilla). All of his work is true to his experiences. He writes, produces and creates all of his own music.

I think you are not up to speed on Rens health story( hi Ren, sick boy, sui### etc. These are autobiographical to music.he has lymes Disease. He was misdiagnosed 10 yrs which led to mental problems and worsening of lymes disease untreated.he was literally confined to bed because of the symptoms etc. This is truth ....medical stuff is him . This stuff was written by him while sick in bed or at home etc. He was finally diagnosed correct and is in treatment in Canada. Think around June July 2024 treatment ends. We all are hoping He will be cured.
