Hi all,
Today I wanted to talk about how to care for and breed pencil fish.
Recently I got myself a small shoal of golden pencilfish and I absolutely love them, definitely recommend picking some up for you apistogramma tank or any tank in general.

Mine eat flakes, micro pellets. And they are BRIGH red and spawn every single morning! Extremely beautiful fish

Perfect choice! These fish deserve so much love, their sparring behavior is incredible to watch! Do I spy Apistogramma trifasciata in there. or is it something else?

Great stuff Blake. What would you keep, if anything, with Kribs in a 65L (60cm) tank? My brother is having hassles with the male killing everything (black neons, harlequins and others) that he has put in there. The parents eat the babies if he has nothing else in there to divert the aggression. I said just let them eat the babies. (he has 3 tanks full ~60 babies) I think the tank is too small for anything else in there.

Hmm thats a tricky one. I have an idea, try something a bit more aggressive like an odessa or tiger barb and also place a mirror in or near the tank to keep the dominant krib distracted. Always a gamble but thats what id do

You mentioned that you would comfortably keep 6-8 in a 40 litre tank. I currently have 6 of these in a 40 litre. Was this in addition to the apistogramma mentioned or as a stand alone setup? Great content thanks in advance 👍

As a standalone, would get a bit crowded i think with an apisto or a pair. Id look at bumping up to a 60l for that

Has anyone else had the horrible experience of killing these Golden Pencilfish with Melafix? Mine died immediately after dosing my tank with the recommended amount. Looks like others have had the same issue if you Google this. Be careful all. :(

Sorry to hear! I dont use melafix (dont believe it does as much good as it does bad) luckily

No... but it has me worried as I'm about to take in a school of them and my tank being treated with both it and Pimafix for a female platy that has a scratch on her. I have glass cats and cories in there that survived Ich X and this treatment so far.
