A random visit to Creston Peak last year has led to a return trip back to this corner of Colorado. First we sandboarded the Sand Dunes National Park and the next day we climbed Blanca Peak. This Colorado 14er is tucked away in a rugged looking corner of Colorado. It's a unique mountain range that rises up on the edge of a giant, flat expanse. The visual contrast is stunning and well worth the visit. Even Christof couldn't deny its majestic beauty as he suffered to it's summit.

I hope they don't for this video specifically. During this pandemic, small mountain communities in Colorado have been hit hard and stretched thin. I'm not sure exactly how Alamosa, Costilla, and Huerfano counties are doing, but some counties don't have the resources to deal with accidents right now, which is why some putting in varying degrees of bans on visitors. Locals are typically stepping it back right now to not put their lives and the lives of others at risk, while these people are pushing themselves. They start explaining to everyone at 8:31 exactly why they shouldn't be there. I wouldn't have a problem with what they are doing this a different year, they are more prepared than a lot of idiots that try to summit 14ers, but they should DEFINITELY NOT be doing this now. If Cody Townsend is staying home, these guys definitely should. Doing this right now shows ignorance, arrogance, and especially entitlement. As a person from one of these small mountain communities with family, friends, neighbors, and community members who are healthcare workers, S&R responders, helicopter pilots, and all the rest who are still out working, I hope you put others above your own entitlement next time.

@@aidansokup8085 This trip was done a month prior to being uploaded, lol, but thanks for the virtue signaling. And I love that you brought up Cody Townsend. He uploaded his last Fifty objective just 24 hours before this video (which he also completed earlier), but make sure you go preach to him as well. We are well aware of the current events and consequences of being reckless in the mountains. Which is why we aren't traveling to all parts right now and keeping our local adventures conservative. What were you saying about ignorance and arrogance?

@@cnuila It's good to hear that you are keeping it more local and conservative. I hope you forgive me for the assuming that this was done at an inappropriate time--I know it takes more than a few days to get a video up, but I assumed that the timing was 1-2 weeks before upload time, which would have been a bad time to do it. If it was late February or early March then you all were perfectly fine doing this. My comment was filled with misplaced anger because I was sitting in isolation with COVID 19, which was brought into my community by tourists that were traveling irresponsibly from places that were infected. I do want to respond to your comment about Cody Townsend. I watched his Fifty video that he had uploaded, and he was very careful with communicating the date that he completed the objective because he is aware of his influence and does not want to indirectly encourage people to travel/push themselves during this time. This video did not mention the date once. Not in text on screen, not verbally, and not even in the description of the video. Why would I go try to preach to Cody Townsend about recklessness and his influence when he understands his influence? I do think that you guys have some influence on the outlook and potentially the behavior of the people who watch your videos and I hope you all use it more carefully in the future. All it would have taken was putting the date somewhere in the video, maybe right under the "16 miles east of Alamosa" subtitle at the beginning of the video. Additionally, I won't apologize about caring about my own community and similar communities that could be affected by travel and recklessness right now, and I think that your use of the buzzword "virtue signaling" was misplaced since I had nothing to gain from my comment. If I had shared the video on Facebook with a similar sentiment in order to gain recognition or praise from friends/family, then that would be virtue signaling. This might be just a personal pet peeve of mine, but many use the phrase "virtue signaling" in an attempt to invalidate perfectly relevant critique. I guess I could have messaged this channel directly to avoid an accusation of virtue signaling, but I was not thinking about that. Again, I'm sorry for my original assumption and misplaced anger, I hope you guys are doing well and continue enjoying the outdoors while we all get through this pandemic!

Attempted this climb in March of 1978 at the age of 18. My father and I and two others. We were unprepared (without crampons) when we reached the snow pack at about 13,000 feet and had to turn back. We returned in May of 1983 with a good friend from high school and made the summit. No snow. What a great day, view, and total experience! Buzzed at the summit by low flying fighter jets from the nearby air force base! Very cool!

You're not gonna believe this, but that is the very first 14er/4000er I ever did, age 17, in 1987, and I distinctly remember that road in! We stopped before trailhead too, we also saw 4x4s limping down, many of them damaged. We slept on a desert floor of low cactus. What a night... It was in summer though. I also loved the comment "we knew we'd need skis but we wouldn't necessarily be skiing"... Mysterious!

That is actually the second iteration of the rockies. There was a proto rocky chain during the late paleozoic that eroded down to sea level by the permian. Then during the creatceous through about the oligocene the fallaron plate started sliding under north armerica and pushed up a plateau. Erosion chewed it up during the last ice age tearing long grooves north to south making the rockies. The fallaron plate contined sliding under the plains and pushed the high plains up over a mile. It continued sliding until it got to about where I-35 is then it finally had enough and plunged down into the mantle.
