If you already crossed Bay of Biscay you missed the boats from the GGR that just returned to Les Sable de Ollone after 250 or so days of circumnavigation, solo, nonstop unassisted. 16 started, 3 finished plus 2 that received assist. Much closer relatives to the Pickle and interesting to see their prep. Dang that visa problem. Hope you have fun in the Med.

Sam, Your travels around France are inspiring. On the topic of foils, Last month I got an up close view while sailing by our America’s Cup racer while it was on a training run. They are fast and make a sound like a water skier but without a tow boat. Pensacola bay pleased to host as the Winter training home for the US AC team this year.

My boat is half the size of yours (14ft or 4m10), but I never call ports on the VHF. I just go to the visitors' pontoon and go to the "Capitainerie". They are on a spot to do something for me, so they assign me a slip and I just move the boat from where it is. I haven't been in trouble for that so far.

Impressive! You chose not to deploy your foils I see. Probably best for their sakes. Coming back through St Malo last September we saw all the yachts about to start out on the Route du Rhum race; not foilers but spectacular nonetheless.

A heads up for the future, the phrase you are using, “take a slip”, does not mean “I want a berth” in English English - which is what people speak in Europe, even if English is their second language. To “slip” a boat means to haul her out on a slipway. You should simply be asking for a “berth”. Anyhow, as you were in Brest, I was going to offer to welcome you when you visited Douarnenez, just down the coast. But it seems that you’ve gone straight to Spain, and skipped the whole of the rest of the Breton coast!
