Nel's makes sense because her mask was partially broken and it destabilized her spirit energy retension and it caused her to change to that child form due to a lack of power. It built back up over her years in exile out in the desserts of Hueco Mundo, but it probably all ran out pretty quick because she used her resurrecion too late.
