Marion Ardailloux it was either one of them as there can only be one Kenpachi per generation. Unohana was the first and original and had to get Kenpachi his strength back as she sealed it when he was a kid

@@marionardailloux6553 A army is only as strong as it's weakest link scolding everyone is perfect management also yes Aizen was put back in confinement Shunsui would have been the choice over retsu and Jushiro regardless he's more intelligent than Yama a better fighter than anyone in the 13 court guard squads other than Yama and Ichibei his Shikai and bankai warp reality and was able to hit a intangible light God so in short he has compassion high intelligence along with ridiculously high reiatsu as seen by the range of his bankai I'd say he was literally the perfect choice

Toshiro is basically the next Yama. He will take over in the far future and run the Gotei 13 for centuries.

However at such a young age Hitsugaya has accomplished more than pretty much any other captain in the same amount of time. He has also shown excellent leadership skills, his only fault is a weakness when it comes to Momo. The only times he's displayed such emotions has been when she was involved or out of revenge for her. One of the reasons Aizen targeted Momo and made Gin antagonize him is because Hitsugaya is the only captain he was worried about discovering him.

Yeah Shinji would be a good choice, his character would be perfect as the Leader of Gotei 13 but the problem lies in his fighting abilities : He can't use his Bankai whenever he wants

Yamamoto would destroy the soul society and kill everyone if he stayed in it too long, Shunsui's Bankai effect everyone in the area, not great when you have allies near you. Shinji also has pretty good leadership experience with the Vizards.

I think this is meant to be uplifting for the Yter in the sense that his favourite Captain has become the Captain Commander. If you want a sad AMV watch his Yamaji Death video and it'll make up for the lack of sadness here.

Shunsui is the most cunning of the captains left by the end. He truly deserves the title. Not to mention it was because of him sacrificing one of their biggest trump cards in Unohana that Kenpachi learnt his Shikai and Bankai. Also, he bargained with Aizen to help Soul Society. Things that Yamaji's ego and pride would've never allowed. Shunsui as a more progressive leader is what Soul Society needed at the time and he delivered.

So to say it makes no sense, and that he isn’t as wise as kisuke or ishin, (when he’s been there the longest, and is arguably one of the strongest captains) just isn’t true. @Mister Goat No, there was a panel where they discussed who would take over. They viewed Unohana as too dangerous and uncontrollable (She was, at the time, the only Kenpachi, and despite her demeanor change a central 46 knew better) and Joshiro was too sick thus unreliable. So they chose Shunsui. Those 3 were the only ones considered.

@@williamskyseraspili4779 I highly doubt Byakuya would ever be Captain Commander, and it's not for reasons related to him specifically but rather because of how Soul Society works; Central 46 will probably never want a Captain Commander from any of the Great Noble Families if it can avoid it, because Central 46 is made up of nobles themselves and having a Commander from the nobility would destabilize the Families, one of them would gain way more sway than the others. Because of that, pretty sure any attempt to put a noble as Commander would end up with 25% Central 46 voting yes (the ones from that family), and 75% voting no (the ones from other families), and not only that, they'd be risking an open revolt if it did pass.
