If he's not pushing and dishing,he's ineffective, hence all his struggles in the playoffs (even b4 the Hawks series). Why are people acting like that passed up lay--up was the moment he became what he is now? Did you see the games prior,he was already non existent on the offensive end,he was terrified on that end of the floor. The playoff yrs prior, the same thing. The bigger the games, the smaller he played. If you truly look at him objectively, college should of been a big clue about his make-up. In the NCAA, one spectacular player can lead you to a tournament of 64,and exceptional player can carry you deep in the tournament. Ben Simmons couldn't get his team in a field of 64,dont know many #1 pics who couldn't do that. Since entering the NBA,his game is exactly the same from his lone, lackluster season. People fell in love with his height and his ability to run and dish in transition,he was like the pretty girl, they only focused on the surface level stuff. But like the pretty girl, when it was time to reveal more about herself other than her looks, there wasn't much there.once teams figured Simmons out, keep him in a half court set,he'll be ineffective(especially in playoffs when the lights are the brightest)

The terms "All-NBA" and "draft bust" do not belong in the same sentence. Simmons is STILL the only player from the 2016 draft class with at least one All-Star, one All-NBA, AND one All-Defensive selection. Considering how much time he's missed, that's impressive AF.

@@august6281 Did you not read my first sentence? The terms "All-NBA" and "draft bust" do not mix. Once you become a perennial star in the NBA, you can't become a "bust" later down the road. It only works in one direction. Can you have a sudden downfall? Absolutely. But that doesn't inquire "bust" status. Did Ralph Sampson become a draft bust because of his sudden downfall and lack of a comeback? Nope. No matter what happens with Simmons for the rest of his career, he cannot logically be labeled a "draft bust." He accomplished too much to start his career off.

@@guesswhonot1620 first of all Ralph Sampson doesn’t work because he got injured after the finals run in 1986, but second and more importantly the simple definition of a bust is someone who falls WELL short of their draft expectations without having any reason (injuries, mental health etc) Take LeBron, we know the career he’s bad but let’s say he didn’t. Let’s say after 2006 (which was his third year in the league) he fell off a cliff. By that point he had 2 AS games 2 All-NBA selections and 2nd in MVP voting. If those accomplishments didn’t increase for the rest of his career then he’d be a bust. Why? Becsuse the expectation that was placed upon him throughout high school was that he was going to be the next GOAT level player and the next all-time great, but he didn’t even come close. (Obviously this is just a hypothetical though)

The difference between Doc and Joel when asked about Simmons. Doc stayed politically correct and Embiid threw him under the bus. Where is Embiid now? still finding excuses for never even making a conference final. Some MVP you are, brother.

two things i disagree with this video about so far 1) Simmons rose and just stopped he never got better from when he was a rookie. Even his seasons were the same. He would play really good but not great, people would talk about how great he WOULD be WHEN he added X or Y to his game. Lose to like the Celtics in the playoffs like a joke. Then relase a hype video in the off season pretending that he was getting better before being the same player the next year. 2) It's not that Simmons could not shoot. You only take like 2 threes a season doesn't mean you cannot shoot. It means you WILL NOT shoot. Which is Worse.

Unfortunate as hell, yes he’s a poor free throw shooter, and jump shooter…but the fact that nobody blamed Embiid who’s supposed to be the best player on that team, Tobias Harris who got paid 160 mill to average 10 points in those 2021 playoffs…I’m still holding out hope for him.

He could’ve been Giannis. Giannis isn’t even a good range shooter still, but he can still get 30 a night with just athleticism and his frame. Simmons has a similar build, he can absolutely have done something similar by just being aggressive

Glad you pointed out the red flag of his performance at LSU. Outside of Simmons, that team didn't have any NBA-level talent, but to have a "generational player" only to go 19-14, finish 5th in the SEC, and miss the NCAA tournament entirely doesn't make a lot of sense. The team was a little better the season before he got there, and made the tournament. Having watched some of that season, I saw Simmons as uninterested and he sulked a lot. While he was clearly the best player on the team he didn't have the sort of impact you'd expect of a generational talent playing against college players. I get that at some point he was just playing out a season for a bad team so he could go to the NBA, but you still expect more from someone who had tons of hype before he got there and after he left.

I don't believe Simmons originally had a clinically significant back injury. I think his back pain was psychosomatic. With that said, once he had back surgery, everything goes out the window. He likely has legit back problems at this point.

No sympathy for this man. You're making hundred's of millions, you have to expect scrutiny with that kind of money. No different to how literally any other job works. The highest paid workers will always have their performance scrutinized to ensure they are meeting the demands expected with such a high salary.

Ego, was his downfall. He thought just by his status alone he could slide through his NBA career without to needing to improve, without needing to develop a jump shot or a free throw. Philadelphia even tried to get trainers for him to work with and he said no to all of them. Simmons downfall was his own. He’s so bad offensively not even Australia want to call him up for international play. His offensive game is a joke. It’s 2024, if you can’t shoot a jumper or a free throw get the hell off the floor. Especially in the 3 point era started by the GSW. And even more egregiously as the lead Point Guard. Yeah Simmons doesn’t deserve any more time in the NBA. There’s always players coming through that deserve a chance.

Simmons needs to be the PG for the SUNS. Listen: He has all the shooters in the world. He only needs defense (he’s elite) and passing (he’s elite). It would be a match made in Heaven for the Suns and for him seeking redemption.
