just a quick note for everyone using blender 2.81 who wants to follow this tutorial: not all the settings for the voronoi node mentioned at 1:40 are possible anymore since the node has been hcnged in 2.81 the way to still get the exact texture shown is by making a math node, setting it to subtract and connecting hte distance value of a voronoi texture set to 3D, F2 and chebychev into the top value and the distance value of a voronoi texture set to 3D, F1 and chebychev. then you will have the exact same texture as shown in this video. ideally the scale values on both voronoi textures should be the same (if you want to copy this tutorial exactly: it's still 1.7) otherwise you'll end up with very weird looking patterns

You can, - Add a metallic PBR material of your choice - Add a wobbliness to the lavalike orange spot to make it look a little unpredictable instead of just a perfect circle - Plates and orange emissive material looks isolated from each other so there should be a way to make both of them look like they are interacting with each other. - You can use a black-orange coloured image to give it a variation and realism without many efforts. - Abstract Background reflections can be added. (Little bit practice work for intermediate learners )

OK i was able to get this to work with blender 3.1.0 I used 2 Voronoi Nodes, 1 settings are 3d F1 Chebychev, 2nd Voronoi settings are 3d F2 Chebychev. Make sure the scale is the same on both of them. They are both then connected to a Math Node which i have changed to Divide. Used the Value out for doing all the steps in the tutorial where Ducky used the Voronoi Crackle Texture. Then just play with the Color ramps, including flipping at a few places.

In Blender 2.81 the Voronoi texture node has been changed. The equivalent of Intensity-Chebychev-Crackle is: the substraction of the distance output of two Voronoi nodes, one with 3D-F1-Chevychev and the other 3D-F2-Chevychev. Similar to this wiki.blender.org/wiki/File:Blender2.81_voronoi.png. It took me two hours to find out.

What are you on about? Cycles is nowhere near as intensive as eevee, it just takes longer to render. Try making a complex scene and render it with eevee and see for yourself how your performance chokes up, whereas with cycles you can easily browse the internet or watch a video at the same time as you render. Besides, most eevee renders look like trash to a person who is well aware of screenspace gimmicks.
