I'm literally 1 step away from retopology, how do you time your videos so perfectly is beyond my understanding. Have your book, it is amazing 💛 10/10 would recommend

"ho do you time your videos" by doing what most KZfaqrs don't bother doing : Video Compositing. Record your work. Edit the raw video to keep only what's necessary. Record your voice while playing the edited video. Mount video+voice. Upload to KZfaq. It's clean but it takes more time (and eventually skills) so very few people do it. That's why KZfaq is filled with a huge amount of shitty tutorials with 10 seconds of something important, surrounded by 5 minutes of useless content.

@@HanSolocambo You try to act smart, yet you didn't understand the things that I was saying. I'm not asking about editing, I'm asking about releasing a video about a topic I'm currently working on. Smartass.

The problem with this is that when you start to retopo the back of the model, the front bits are still visible becasue you turned on 'in front' the wireframe of the back facing polygons/wireframe will still be visible I instead go the vieweort shading in the material, go to 'viewport color' and turn down the alpha value to either 0 or .1 In any case with 'in front' you get a miscleading view of how your model is projecting to the underlying geometry
@pile3333 жыл бұрын
That's why "vanilla" Blender is fundamental; it allows you to clean up your own 3D mess. Especially while retopologizing; no add-on can really help you, so far.

So you don't even need a shrinkwrap modifier?! I'll have to try it this way next time, thanks!
@BlenderSecrets3 жыл бұрын
Well, you can certainly use a Shrink-wrap modifier if you want! It can be useful to add and apply one at the end, so you are certain that it's all snapping to the surface.

What are these "click, click, click" shortcuts that let you auto retopo? Is it a 2.8+ feature?
@BlenderSecrets3 жыл бұрын
Hmm, not sure what you mean (timestamp?) - I will dive deeper into each part in the next 4 short videos, not to worry! Perhaps you're referring to the F2 addon which ships with Blender. You can add Faces with just one key (F). Or Grid Fill, you can add a lot of geo with just one click. All shall be explained!!

Is it better to use retopo add-ons or simply use this
@BlenderSecrets3 жыл бұрын
For mecha retopo, I like to do it manually so I can still think about the design while I work, and improve the shapes in some places. But for organic models I would probably retopo automatically in Zbrush or with that paid add-on for Blender (I have Zbrush, so that’s my choice).

It's common to also use a Shrinkwrap modifier. That way, if you for example subdivide, the new vertices will also snap to the surface.

Im transitioning from 3dsMax to Blender. I have some car models still in progress that I would like to transfer to Blender. Body shapes with turbosmooth and no textures. I exported some in FBX and opened in Blender and it is ok, but my question is, is it reliable to continue working on this object, or do I have to do retopolgy?
@sagethedemonking39928 ай бұрын
I'm not an expert, just an animation student, but I think it depends on how clean the geometry of your object/mesh is. If there's a lot going on, it might be a good idea to Retopologize in sections so your Object/mesh behaves like you want it too. I hope that helps you in some way 🙂
