Hey! Remember that Paradise Fibers blended top we got for February? Me too! A while ago, I used a blending board with some merino and Romney to make these really pretty color shifting stripes, and I thought this was the perfect wild colored blended top to go for it again. I'll be spinning, talking about what's going on w/our channel, and making rolags, fauxlags, rologs (whatever you choose to call them) with my Ashford blending board! I'm so glad you're here to join me!

Love this technique. The wool becomes softer looking when you blend it. Makes you want to just reach out and touch it. I have a similar story with the public. Spent 8 years doing IT customer service. Never again. Ever. People can be the best, or they can be at their worst when you work with the public. To this day, I tell everyone I am retired. I can't stand to hear a phone ring, and after I got married the second time I would wake up with nightmares from it all. Keep up the great work! ❤

“I found out that I hate working with the public.” YEP. One of the things I love about spinning is that you get to play with *physical* color, change it up, manipulate it in whatever way you want. Figuring out what I need to do with fiber to get the result I want is like playing with a puzzle. ♥️💙💜💕 You don’t babble! You’re real and honest. Thank you. 🤗 I’m glad you’re getting back to what you love.

What a great idea! I never would have thought to leave the fiber thick, but I can surely see the benefit. As far as your "discussion", the way you travel on your own journey is what attracted all to us to you in the first place. So just do you! God, family, work is the proper order of life so never apologize for doing it correctly. We are so grateful for your sharing and encouragement and I hope you receive that back from all of us too. Blessings to you both.

My goodness Gerry, I couldn’t have put it better myself!! I know I don’t comment very often, but just want you to know Trish that a big part of why I follow your channel is because of you….. your love for us - “your fibre people”, the love you put into all your videos, & all the beautiful things you create. On top of that, you are a great encourager & your happy smiles make my day!!!! I do often wonder, with all the hard work you put into your channel, if there is enough time left for “you”. So pleased that life balance is at the top of your list. I’m so grateful to you for all that you do Trish…… I’ve learned so much from you so thank you so much!!!! Very intrigued & excited to see where this next leg of your journey takes you & I will continue to follow along with you for as long as you are willing to share. I also pray blessings for both you & John. xxx

About 3 years ago I taught myself to weave by finding things on KZfaq. I found you but you had a lot more spinning/dying/knitting videos than weaving. But, like you, I'm an introvert and I found out I loved to watch you do stuff that I don't even want to do. So I watched every video you ever posted. You are a fun, casual, easy-going, humble person and a spontaneous artist and I don't need to learn anything from you or even be interested in your specific fiber arts to enjoy hanging out with you, watching you do your thing. Since I'm 68 years old and not that interested, I don't know what is possible on social media these days or what I'm missing by not twitting and tweeting and meme-ing and duck-lipping, whatever. I just like to see Luther and Gus and John and your house and your weather and the comments from fiber artists all over the globe and feel the sisterhood of us all. Thanks for keeping it up. I miss you when you're gone.

It's one of the things that draws us to you and keeps us with you-- just you being awesome self!😉 I am so grateful to have found you and a little proud of myself for taking your inspiration to heart and being brave enough (with yours and Carrie's encouragement) to jump in and be a part of this group of fiber-crazy, wonderful, amazing people instead of just sitting by and watching everyone else have fun and grow close. Hello, just discovered your channel. I’ve recently been intrigued by spinning. I don’t know how to spin yet. However, I’ve been learning so much by watching your channel as well as other spinning channels. I learned how to knit about 4 years ago. When I first learned that people still spin their own yarn, I thought why in heck would anyone want to do all that work to make yarn when they could just buy it. Plus, when I’ve watched knitting channels that talked about spinning, it seemed like a lot to learn. I see, know, what all the excitement is all about. Keep the videos coming. 💜💜💜

Watching/listening while I work on some weaving and plying. I so enjoy your videos and the warping board I bought from you has been a godsend to getting better tension on my rigid heddle looms. I relate to so much of what you chatted about, from the yarn stash to figuring out your next right thing. Do what is best for you. Just hearing that someone else is facing the same challenges is heartening. Also, I am off to make some rolags from some merino/stellina I got in a Paradise Fibers subscription maybe March 2021 that I am struggling to spin. I think your idea about self striping it might just be the ticket.

Just catching up on posts. I love how this turned out, I have a few lovely bags of a blue and teal blend that would work well for this. I hope you and John are both well. I think you are right about the podcast, it has to feel right and enjoyable if you are going to continue, it always shows when people try to feed the algorithm, or they are working on something they are no longer enjoying as much. I hope Jay loves spending time with his Mum making and blending fibres, my son Ewan always loved to help me dye fibres with food colour when he was about 4 , or 5 and he likes to try out my blending board and wheel now and then too.

Thank you for the reminder that it’s ok to put ourselves first! I really love this technique- I’ve got this same combed top, but the colors are a little too bright for me. I was afraid if I carded it it would be too muddy, but this rolag option turned out so nice! Preserved to lovely colors, but took away the starkness. Thank you for this!

I found this video particularly helpful. I normally do not gravitate to the blended roving. See how you can change it and keep the colors somewhat separate is so interesting and has changed my mind about them. But now I have a problem. Now I was to by a blending board. 😀

Fairly new to spinning so the drafting of rolag was brilliant as when I have spun from them in the past I get clumps.
@FiberLoveDiary
@FiberLoveDiary 2 жыл бұрын
Keeping them a little bit looser will help with that too. I didn't like them for quite awhile because I got clumps until I tried some different things.

When I first started making rolags I made them really tight. But found out how hard they were to draft that way. Yours turned out beautifully.

I used to avoid it, but now I like trying to figure out how to get the results I want, or at least something I love if I didn't like the original top.
