Hi Lesley. The voice you are hearing in this is actually a recording of a woman singing in Ireland about 100 years ago. There are many more recordings like it on the Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) website!

I watched this for the first time during one of David's Three Sundays series in 2021. I was going through the hardest time of my life and was attending that session on my phone sitting on a forest floor. I just watched this again for the first time since then and I immediately welled up when the first "vibrant note" struck. What a gift. Moves me more than just about anything.

The music is a mix of a 1905 wax cylinder recording of a song called ‘Cé Phort Láirge’ (Waterford Quay) and work of the composer Owen Ó Súilleabháin. You can read more about it in Aeon Magazine, that's where I first came across this piece.

@@Nrana9 thank you very much. Much appreciated. Since posting, I found Owen on line and then realized I know his Mother Norin ni Riain. Ive Been a long time fan of her music. Norin and her two sons are Owen and Liam are very talented and doing wonderful musical and spiritual work. Also i believe the song is the oldest recorded SEAN NOS song. Very special.

@@charletteepifanio yes, this is the title: "Irish hills, folk music and David Whyte’s poetry form a fleeting, meditative moment". Aeon is a free for all online magazine, so you can just search for the title online and hopefully you'll then find the article easily!
